Nursery Newsletter 14.11.16

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we are focusing on the story 'Pete the Cat: I love my white shoes.'

These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
Mathematics
We have enhanced the Maths table with lots of different coloured objects and numbers this week. The children enjoyed exploring the resources on Friday. Teachers will be focusing on ensuring children use 1:1 correspondence when counting and moving the interesting objects and supporting the children to count in the correct order.

Physical
Children will be supported to ride the small bikes outside. They will either be taught to use the peddles if not able to or extended to develop steering and control of a bike.

Literacy
The children will be encouraged to listen carefully to the story and join in with repeated phrases.
The children will be supported to develop their listening skills in small groups with their Key Worker. They will be joining in with Nursery Rhymes and learning actions to help them recall these and following on from last week listening carefully to the different sounds instruments make and beginning to play simple rhythms.

Communication and Language
Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Modelling the correct use of tense e.g. "I went to the park".
Encouraging children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.

Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well and begin to share with other children.

Messages
The children are encouraged to use the outside area in all weathers as long as they are suitably dressed. Most children now have a pair of wellies in school. It would also be a good idea to bring in waterproof coats/macs with the children. These can either go home with the children or stay in school on their pegs.

The EYFS Nativity for Nursery and Reception will be on December the 12th. For morning parents the performance will start at 9.30. For afternoon parents the performance will start at 2.30.

Remember all children need to apply for their place in Reception regardless of whether they have attended the Nursery. You need to apply online at: www.havering.gov.uk/eAdmissions.  If you need support to apply please see Miss Tynan in the Nursery and we will help.

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
