This week, our Super Snack area sparked lots of creativity as the children took on the fun challenge of designing faces as part of their healthy snack!
Each child started with a large rice cake and practiced their spreading skills by adding a layer of cream cheese using a knife. This was a bit tricky for some, so a few little hands needed a helping hand to get the angle just right — great practice for developing fine motor skills!
Once their rice cakes were ready, the children chose from a colourful selection of fruits and vegetables to create facial features. It was wonderful to see their imaginations at work as they carefully placed cucumber smiles, grape eyes, and carrot noses.
The results were as creative as they were delicious, and the children were so proud of their tasty, healthy masterpieces!
This week, we’ve been working on strengthening our fingers to support the development of fine motor skills — an important foundation for writing, cutting, and other everyday tasks. The children loved using tweezers to carefully place colourful pompom “spots” onto our ladybird templates. This activity really got those little fingers working, helping to build control, coordination, and hand strength in a fun and engaging way.It was lovely to see the concentration and pride as the children carefully added each spot — fantastic fine motor practice disguised as play!
Creative Collaging at the Art Table!
This week at the art table, the children explored the wonderful world of collage! The focus was on using a variety of materials to create textured and colourful masterpieces.
They had access to a wide selection of materials, including different types and colours of paper, fabric scraps, pom-poms, paper straws, and sticks. It was fantastic to see the children experimenting with layering, sticking, and arranging their chosen items to create unique works of art.
This activity encouraged creativity, fine motor development, and decision-making — all while having lots of fun with colour and texture!
Creative Creations in the Malleable Area!
This week in the malleable area, the children have been getting wonderfully creative as they made their own ladybirds and other minibeasts!
They’ve been busy rolling, squashing, and shaping dough to form bodies, wings, and antennae — a fantastic way to build those all-important fine motor skills. To bring their minibeasts to life, they added features using pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and plenty of imagination.
It was a joy to watch their ideas take shape, and the results were as unique and colourful as the children themselves!
Storytime Comes to Life in the Tuff Tray!
This week’s tuff tray was inspired by our story of the week, What the Ladybird Heard. The children were delighted to explore a mini farmyard scene, complete with taste-safe soil, as they brought the story to life through imaginative play.
They had so much fun making animal sounds, retelling the plot, and role-playing the characters' interactions. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and storytelling skills shine as they immersed themselves in the world of the ladybird and her farmyard friends.
