This week's learning

In the playdough area, we explored blue playdough mixed with sparkles to inspire wintery creations. The children enjoyed shaping snowmen, stars, and many imaginative designs. It’s been a busy, hands-on space full of creativity and conversation.

Using chalks on dark paper, we created contrasting dark and light scenes. The children experimented with mark-making, shading, and blending. This activity encouraged observation, creativity, and lots of discussion about light and shadows.

We searched through bowls of dark pasta to find bright, colourful stars hidden inside. Children used their fine-motor skills to sift, pick, and sort the stars. This sensory challenge kept everyone focused and engaged.

Outside, we watched frost and patches of ice slowly melt throughout the day. The children used pieces of ice to mix, mash, and create “potions” in our outdoor area. It sparked so much curiosity about winter weather and temperature changes.

We’ve also been enjoying our obstacle courses outdoors, using our physical skills in lots of different ways. Children balanced, climbed, jumped, and navigated their way through each setup. It’s been a fun way to build strength, confidence, and teamwork.

We played matching pairs to help develop memory and concentration skills. The children enjoyed taking turns, noticing patterns, and trying to remember where different pictures were hiding. It was a fun and thoughtful activity that encouraged persistence and problem-solving.

During group time, we used torches to explore how shadows are made. The children experimented with moving objects closer and further away to change the shapes and sizes. It was a playful way to deepen their understanding of light.

Nursery Certificate- 20.11.25

Congratulations to the following children, who have been awarded the E for Excellence certificate this week! We are so proud of all your hard work, effort, and achievements.

Congratulations to Theo, for showing wonderful perseverance while learning to use scissors!

Theo didn’t give up, and with a little support he completed the task he was working so hard on. He also used this same determination when practising with the pipettes to draw up water.

Well done, Theo! Your fine motor skills are getting better every day!

Well done, Oscar! Over the last few weeks, you’ve built up so much confidence and are now talking to the adults.
We love hearing you play and chat with your friends, and we’re so happy to be having those lovely conversations with you too.

Keep it up, Oscar, you’re doing brilliantly!

Important Information

Reading Books
We are introducing our Nursery Book Scheme. Each week your child will bring home a book for you to share together. This is to help build early listening skills, a love of stories, and positive reading habits.

Your child will receive a new book every Friday. Please return it to the book-change box by Thursday so we can provide the next one. They will also have a Reading Record for you to complete.

Please read the letter in the pack for more information.

The school will be holding a Christmas Disco. This is an event you will need to pay for. Please use the QR code to do this. You can also find the QR code on the nursery door.

If your child only attends morning sessions, they are welcome to come to this, but please

do not bring them to the nursery door

They will need to enter via the door on the right hand side of the office. There will be someone on the door to help you

Have you applied for your 3 or 4 year old to start school?

Children born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022 will be starting at an infant or priamary school in September 2026

We kindly ask that each child has at least one full change of clothes (including underwear and socks) kept on their peg while they are in nursery. These can be left here and replaced as needed.

Recently, we’ve noticed that some of our nursery clothes are not being returned after use, which means we are running very low on spares. We completely understand that accidents and messy play happen every day, but to make sure every child is comfortable and cared for, it’s important that each child has their own spare set available.

If a child needs changing and we do not have any nursery clothes or personal spares available, we will need to contact you to bring in a change of clothes for them.

We would also like to say a big thank you to all the families who have kindly donated clothes that their children no longer need. Your generosity really helps us to keep our nursery well-stocked and supports all of our little learners.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support in helping us keep every child happy, clean, and comfortable during their busy nursery day!

This week the children explored light and dark rice in the tuff tray, noticing the contrast as they scooped, poured and ran their hands through the grains. As they mixed the colours, they watched the patterns change and created their own marbled effects. The activity sparked rich conversation, supported fine motor skills, and encouraged early scientific thinking. A simple setup with lots of curiosity and discovery.

The children used bingo dabbers to decorate their own cats, linking to our story Cat’s Colors. They experimented with bright spots of colour, choosing shades to match the cat’s adventures in the book. This simple activity supported creativity, coordination, and colour recognition. A fun, hands-on way to bring the story to life.

One of our most popular activities this week has been the pizza oven role-play, complete with real pizza toppings kindly donated by a parent. The children loved taking turns as chefs, choosing ingredients and creating their own “orders.” This encouraged sharing, communication, and lots of imaginative play. A deliciously fun way to work together!

The children have been enjoying quiet time in the book corner, choosing their favourite stories to share. They’re turning the pages in order, carefully following the pictures and words. Many are beginning to re-tell familiar stories with growing confidence. It’s lovely to see their love of books continue to grow.

Maths we have been recognizing patterns on dice and building dice towers

What we are learning W/B 10/11/25

Year Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was The Little Hen and the Great War.

Here is what we have been up to: the children painted poppies and added them to our Reception Outside Area to remember all of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during war. They also painted their hands red and from their hand prints made their own poppy wreaths to display outside our classroom doors. The children also recorded a poem for Remembrance Day.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children have all been assessed and are now working in groups based on this. The children discussed what makes a good friend and made their own friendship recipes. They put the key words in their friendship bowls that they thought makes a good friend. They worked hard to write the initial sounds they could hear in words such as ‘h’ for ‘helps’. They also tried to sound out the words such as ‘kind’ using their set 1 sound mat.  Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Well done Reception for your hard work in Read, Write, Inc and with your writing this week.

The children also went outside and made triangles from sticks in our outside area. They also learnt about positions and could describe the positions different objects were in in our outside area. Well done Reception for your hard work in Maths this week!

This week is also Anti-Bullying Week. We learnt about the importance of kindness and made friendship recipes and added words such as ‘help’ and ‘kind’ into their friendship recipe bowls.
