Week 2- 13.01.23

Congratulations 

Congratulations to Mrs Rice and her husband on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Florence. Florence was born on 1st January. What a way to start the New Year! We wish them all the best at this special time.

New staff

As Mrs Rice enjoys her new baby bubble, we have some new faces in the nursery:

Mrs Stanley is the Assistant Head teacher, head of Early Years and Key Stage One. She will be working in Nursery on Mondays.

Miss Tynan has been with the school for 10 years and has just returned from maternity leave. She has led Nursery, Reception and Year 2. She will be working in the Nursery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Miss Chappel has been with the school for 8 years and has also just returned from maternity leave. She has led Reception and Year One. She will be working in the Nursery on Thursdays and Fridays.

Indoor learning 

The children have been very creative this week using the marble run! They have worked on this most days, changing the course they have built and using differed size marbles to see if they could make them go faster! 

Messy play!! 

Outdoor learning 

The rain never stops the children from exploring and learning outside! This week the children have been working on creating obstacle courses. The children first began trying to make their way around the tree area, using the stumps but they found that they were too far apart. 

Mason then suggested they make their own. They used the crates and the stepping stones, first arranging them in a line, but then with some prompting, they made it into a circle so they cold continue to go round and round.

Reminders

Prompt pick up time - The children now have their lunch in the hall. Can we ask that if you are picking your child up after the morning session, that you collect them between 11:15-11:30am. After this time, they may be taken to he school office for collection.  

Wellie boots- Please ensure your child has a pair of wellie boots in school. We spend a lot of time outside, whatever the weather.

A change of clothes- Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in their bag. If you have any pants/knickers or socks at home that belong to the nursery, please can you return them as we are running low. 

   

Dear Parent,

Carmel Jane Photography will be attending the school on 18th of June 2021, to take the class portraits. All Parents must pre-register, before the photography date above.

This is important as it enables you to gain quick access to your child's photographs and the opportunity to purchase them.

To do this, you will need to go to www.carmeljaneshop.co.uk and enter the following code:

JRTSG3D

You will then be asked to pre-register with your child's full school register name.

By preregistering, when the photos are ready you will receive an automatic email notification to inform you, your child's photos are now ready to be viewed and purchased, you will then be able to create your account or if you already have an account, please log in to view your child’s images.

All orders will be sent to your home address free of charge for a 2-week window.

 Term: Autumn 1          

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are now into the third week of Nursery and the children have been settling in fantastically!

The school blog on the website and Facebook page are a great way to keep up to date with what is happening in the classrooms and any up and coming events.

This half term we have been introducing traditional nursery rhymes to the children as well as teaching them a calming sensory song with actions. In particular we have focussed on: Twinkle Twinkle, Five Little Speckled Frogs, and Wind the Bobbin Up.

Communication and Language 

We will be encouraging the children to use their words to express themselves and to communicate their needs. 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development 

This half term we are focusing on settling the children into their new environment, ensuring they are aware of expectations and the rules of the setting. We will also be working on sharing resources and taking turns. 

Physical Development 

This term there is a focus on gross motor activities to strengthen our core muscles. Activities include obstacle courses, jumping and hopping games. Using a child-sized broom is also a great way to develop gross motor skills and the children have been very eager to get involved with using the brooms during tidy up time! 

We also provide activities to support fine motor development, including playdough, mark making, painting, sand and water play.

Maths

Around the learning environment children will encounter endless opportunities to count, sort, order and categorise resources. They will see number lines and digits in nursery along with the opportunity to complete puzzles; supporting their logical reasoning and problem solving skills.

They will develop their understanding of the typical routine in nursery and begin to anticipate different times of the day.

Literacy 

At Broadford Primary School, the Read Write Ink scheme is used and as a prerequisite to learning phonemes, in nursery we are embedding one of the first strategies which is the ‘Stop Signal.’ This is a school-wide approach to getting children to stop what they are doing, look and listen to their teacher. It starts in nursery and we have been using it throughout the day, in particular at tidy up time!

Key Dates

There will be no whole school events for the first half of the Autumn term at least, this will then be reviewed for the second half of the term but may not change. This will mean that there will be no stay and learn sessions. We can celebrate these events AND include parents and carers through the virtual world.  Watch this space!

• Please ensure your child has a named set of spare clothes on their peg at all times. 

• All uniform, water bottles and pack lunch boxes should be labelled with your child’s name. 

• Please can toys and comforters stay at home.

• Your child does not need to bring snacks to school. Fruit and water are available throughout the day for the children to access. The children only need to bring food to school if they are having a pack lunch. 

• Please let your class teacher know if your child has any medical needs, allergies or dietary requirements if you have not done so already.

Term:  Autumn 2                          Date 23.11.15

 We will continue with our colour topic, especially looking at nocturnal animals.  Our story of the week is ‘The first Christmas story’, we will learning our Christmas Songs.

 The staff and children will be busy developing the role play corner into a Christmas Shop (as requested by the children), this week. 

 Personal, Social and Emotional

• Demonstrates sense of self as an individual.

Communication and Language

• Beginning to talk about people and things that are not present.
• Learns new words very rapidly and is able to use them in communicating.
• Beginning to ask simple questions.

Literacy

• Beginning to use three fingers (tripod grip) to hold writing tools.
• Imitates drawing simple shapes such as circles and lines.

Physical Development:

• Attempts, sometimes successfully, to fit shapes into spaces on inset boards or jigsaw puzzles.

 Learning Challenge

As mentioned last week,  each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.

This week we will be carrying out many activities including finger gym activities, scissor control, exploring ICT and much more. 

We will be reading ‘Not now Bernard’ and singing ‘Two Little Dickie Birds’ and ‘Three Blind Mice’.

Personal, Social and Emotional

• Growing sense of will and determination.
• Begins to learn some things are theirs some things are shared and some things belong to other people.
• Responds to a few appropriate boundaries, with encouragement and support.

Communication and Language

• Beginning to ask simple questions?
• Uses different types of every day words
• Understands simple sentences. 

Literacy

• Interest in books and rhymes and may have favourites.

Reception Newsletter 12.10.15

Term: Autumn 1         

                  

            This week we will be focusing on the story of 'The Rainbow Fish''

Personal, Social and Emotional

• In our story of the week 'The Rainbow Fish' the main character learns the importance of making new friends and sharing his possessions. We will be focusing on encouraging the children to share resources whilst working in small groups. They will need to ask their friends if they need a particular resource and think about the needs of others too. 
• Beginning to accept the needs of others, take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others.
• We will be talking about friendship and how the children can make sure they are a good friend. 

Communication and language

• Supporting the children to use the past, present and future tense correctly.
• Encouraging children to question why things happen and give explanations.
• Listening to and joining in with the story of  'The Rainbow Fish,'

Physical Development

• Holding a pencil between thumb and two fingers moving away from a fist grip.
• Mr Portway our PE specialist teacher will be starting PE groups. The children will start to get changed for PE so will need a PE kit.

Literacy

• The children have been issued  with a reading book and reading record. Please encourage your child to talk about the pictures and make up their own stories. Every time you listen to your child read, please make a comment in their reading record- this may even be a bedtime story. It does not have to always be their school reading book.
• We will continue learn the initial phonics sounds in small groups this week. We will send the sounds home so you can see what the children have been learning in school. We will also be using Fred talk to support early reading skills ( saying the sounds in a word separately and asking the children to say the word back e.g. P-e-g is peg and c-a-t is cat.)
  We have started assisted blending using magnetic letters. This is to support the children to read simple Cvc words such as 'cat', 'pig', 'dog'.

Mathematics

• We will be continuing to reinforce the correct formation of numbers through daily practice and revising the ten town number characters.
• For children who found it hard to count accurately and match numeral to quantity last week we will have daily focus groups to address this.
• We will be playing bingo with the children to consolidate are knowledge of matching numeral and quantity. Some children will be extended to find one more/less than a given number.

Understanding of the World

• Comments on some things they have observed such as natural objects like the concers outside, or the small world sea creatures in our story of the week.

• We will be supporting the children to select and use simple maths games on the computers.
• We will be modelling how to use the 2 simple paint programme to draw pictures from our story of the week.

Expressive Arts and Design

 

• Using celery sticks to paint scales on fish templates. Learning to carefully use paint to create the desired effect. 

Messages

• Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.

Reception Newsletter 6.7.15

Term: Summer 2 Date: 6.07.15

Topic: 'Buckets and Spades'

Apple Class thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Thordon Park, they followed the trail to find the Gruffalo and took part in various activities arranged by the park rangers. We are very proud of the excellent behaviour they showed on the day. On Wednesday Aspen class will be visiting Thorndon Country Park. On Thursday the children will have the Reception graduation at 2:15pm.

We will be basing our learning around the story of ‘The Gruffalo.’ During the week your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests; however, the skills remain the same):

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

·         Children are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities.

·         Children talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others' behaviour, and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable.

·         Children will say when they do or don't need help. 

·         Children will be discussing the story of ‘The Gruffalo.’

·         Discussing transition into Year 1.

Communication and Language

·         Sharing the story of, ‘The Grufalo’ and getting the children to ask, who, what why and how questions.

·         Children will be encouraged to express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners' needs.

·         We will be working on the children giving their attention to what others say and respond appropriately, while engaged in another activity.

Physical Development

·         Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.

·         Shows increasing control over an object in pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it.

·         Children will be going out in groups with Mr Portway practising their skills for sports day on the 14^th July.

 

Literacy

·         We will be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.

·         Please keep practising ‘Fred talking’ the words we send home and encouraging your child to use their ‘Fred Fingers’ to help them spell the words.

·         The children need to be bringing in their reading books daily. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place

·         Attempts to write short sentences in meaningful contexts.

·         This week the children will be designing their own Gruffalo monster and using their phonic knowledge to write descriptive captions about it.

·         Continue a rhyming string. We will look at the rhyming words in the Gruffalo story and play a game encouraging the children to recognise rhymes and continue rhymes.

Mathematics 

·          Beginning to use every day language related to money.

·          Recognise the value of different coins.

·          Orders two items by weight or capacity.

·          Counting on and backwards from zero to twenty and beyond.

 
 
Understanding of the World

·         Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools.

·         They select and use technology for particular purposes-taking photographs of their lion hunt on the I pads

·         Enjoying our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.

·         Playing cooperatively as part of a group to develop and act out a narrative.

Expressive Arts and Design

·         Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

·         Children will be deigning and making their own imaginative creatures.

·         Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes.

·         Thank you to all the children who have been bringing in their learning challenges to share with us in school. It is great to see how the children are continuing and deepening their learning at home.

·         As part of your child’s transition to year one, we would appreciate it if you could encourage your child to walk down to their class on their own. Children will now write their name when they come into their class to register instead of finding their name. The name cards will be available if your child needs help.

·         Aspen Class Thordon Country Park on the 8^th July.

·         Graduation 9^th July at 2:15 pm.

·         Sports Day 14^th July. The children will be bringing their PE kits home this week so they can come to school in their PE kit on the 14^th July. Please provide the children with a sun hat and apply sun cream before school if the weather is hot.
