Nursery Learning W/B 10.6.24

Nursery Learning : Week Beginning 10/6/24

Holiday dates (School and Nursery closed):

Last day of summer term; Tuesday 23rd July 2024

School inset dates and Election Day; Wednesday 24th July 2024, Thursday 4th July

Story of the week

This week the children have been listening to the story 'The Doctosaurus'.
You can listen to the story at home with your children by clicking this link link .
Next week we are focusing on Vets, if you have any pictures of pets that children have at home  so the children can talk about how they help look after them at home please do bring these in.

Creative play

The children have been showing great independent play skills this week and have some lovely ideas for their play. They have built homes for dinosaurs together, added doctors items to the playdough and cut bandages for patients and have created some beautiful sparkly pictures.

On the 25th, 26th and 27th of June we will be visiting Harold Hill Library to share stories and find out about the job of a librarian. We will need parent volunteers so please let us know if you would like to join us on the trip.

The children have been enjoying visiting our school library this half term in preparation for our visit. Each week the school librarians take a small group and they share stories together. This week the children enjoyed using the puppet theatre to help re-tell the story of 'Old McDonald's Farm' and 'Hello Little Fishy'.

Outdoor learning

Our poppies have started to flower! The children have been very excited to see the buds open and look carefully at the flowers. We have also noticed the strawberries are starting to ripen and turn red. The mint has grown particularly well so we have used this to add a scent to our potions in the mud kitchen.

Role Play

The children have enjoyed acting in role as doctors and nurses this week. We talked about how these people help us and named some of the equipment they might use such as a bandage, a stethoscope or a bottle of medicine. They children dressed up and enjoyed helping each other.

"I can hear your heart going bump, bump!" Zara

Stay and Play

Thank you to the parents/carers who were able to attend the Stay and Play this week. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate the outdoors! Outdoor play supports the teaching of our curriculum on a larger scale, please click here to read about some of the other benefits of children (and adults) enjoying time outside.
Here are some ideas you might like to try over the Summer holidays, let's hope for sunny weather!

Many thanks,
The Nursery Team

Nursery 28.11.22-2.12.22

 The Jolly Christmas Postman

This week the children have been reading 'The Jolly Christmas Postman.' They all made their own Christmas cards, put them in an envelope and went on a walk to the postbox to post their Christmas card. We hope you enjoy receiving them in the post.

First the children made their Christmas cards and wrote their message, here are some examples of their amazing writing.

Then they placed their card in the envelope and stuck down the stamp.

Finally, they walked to the postbox to post their card, which I am sure the children thought was the most exciting part.

Christmas Tree

Thank you so much to Luna's mum who very kindly donated a Christmas tree to the Nursery. The children have really enjoyed putting the tree up and have been super helpful rearranging the baubles since it has been put up.

Parent Stay and Learn

A big thank you to the parents who attended the stay and learn sessions this week. It was great to see you having so much fun interacting with the children. The children loved having you, we even had a few unexpected tears when it was time to say goodbye.

Reminder about the Christmas Nativity Monday 5th December-10:45am and 2:30pm

By now you should have all received two tickets for Monday's Christmas Performance.

Please remember to send your child in with either party clothes or Christmas jumpers on the day of the nativity.

The concert will take place in the Charlton Hall (Year 1 Building). You can access this hall through the gates on Faringdon Avenue (where the KS1 and KS2 children enter in the mornings).

Thank you and good luck

I would like to thank all of the Nursery parents for their support and commitment this term. I have loved teaching the Nursery children and I will miss them all very much. I would like to wish them every success in their learning journey, I am sure they will achieve great things. Today is my last day at Broadford as I begin my own adventure into parenthood and the children in Nursery have taught me so much already.

Take care and good luck everyone, you are all superstars!

Reception Stay & Play

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are excited to invite you to our OPAL stay and play session. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to play with your child/children in the school grounds. We will be making dens, dressing up, making up imaginative stories, playing with water and much more.

Reception OPAL Stay and Learn

Date: Tuesday 7th June 2022

Time: 2:10 – 3:00pm

Play time is a hidden part of the school day for you, so our Summer term 'Stay and Learn' sessions will allow you to see how play at break and lunchtime has developed during Broadford’s OPAL journey, how the children are playing and, also, gives context to the requests and pleas we send out to the school community e.g., welly requests, loose parts donations, fundraising efforts.

If possible, please bring a loose part donation to help with den making, for instance a tyre, clean wood, tarp, plastic pipe, crate. We also are always looking for ride-on toys, scooters, old suitcases and anything form the loose parts list send out previously.

Please indicate via this form if you are able to attend. We are really excited about this project and hope that you will support us in our efforts to improve playtime for all children.

Please dress for all weathers and for play!

We look forward to welcoming you all

The Reception Team
