Reception World Book Day

We had an amazing week in reception celebrating World Book Day. Over the course of the week, there was a range of activities and events.  Such a great week !

On Monday, the children enjoyed watching a webinar with the Author Lucy Walters as part of the  Authors Aloud UK Awesome Authorfest.

On Tuesday, the class teachers read the story Into the forest by Anthony Browne.

This book was chosen for the whole school and each year group completed a range of art and literacy activities.  In reception, we chose to complete a piece of art work inspired by the story. 

On Wednesday morning, Reception participated in the 'We are readers class swap" .

 Reception teamed up with Cedar, Elm and Cherry class and was lucky to have some lovely stories read to us by the wonderful children.

In the afternoon, we decorated our classroom doors in the theme of one of favourite stories. The children really enjoyed helping to decorate them. The whole school completed this and on Friday a winner for each key stage was chosen.

On Thursday, the big day arrived.. World Book Day 2022! The children were greeted in the playground by the reception team dressed as superheroes. The team chose this theme as it linked with our Supertato story and theme.  

The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up in their costumes. 

Do you recognise which character they came as?

 Each class chose their three best dressed friends and they got to have their photo taken and then the reception team chose each class's winner. The winner's received a certificate and book token from Miss McFarlane, out school librarian.

The children completed some lovely activities throughout the course of the day.

During the afternoon of World Book Day the children watched 'Broadford's Masked Reader"

There was lots of excitement and even more guesswork. They got there in the end and all managed to guess who the three masked readers were. 

The masked readers were:

 Alfie, Roza and Millen.

A big well done to you three, you were AMAZING!

Just before home time, some of the reception children attended the special book day assembly to show the rest of the school their amazing artwork inspired by the book  Into the forest by Anthony Browne. 

Danni-Ella, Ronnie and Emily stood in front of lots of teachers and children and proudly spoke about their piece of artwork and their favourite part of the story. Their confidence shone through and we are so so very proud of them.

Lastly, on Friday the children attended Broadford's Big Book Swap. Each child in reception was lucky enough to choose a keep a new story book.  They had great fun choosing and then at the end of the day shared their stories on the carpet with their friends.

Aspen class received a certificate, which is being displayed in their classroom window!

We had a fantastic week celebrating world book day. We are already looking forward to next year's events.

“It's the big bad wolf ” 

said Teddy- James recalling the three little pigs story.

Book of the week

The children have loved listening to The Three Little Pigs, listening to different versions of the story and talking about the similarities and differences between each story book. Many children noticed this story also had a ‘Big Bad Wolf’ like in Little Red Riding Hood last week. All of the children reinforced that we should not speak to strangers and we should all listen to our grown ups who try to keep us safe.

Our topic focused learning

This week the children have been learning about Traditional tales. We listened to The Three Little Pigs and looked at fiction books involving wolf characters like The wolf’s pancakes and No Dinner. The children have also enjoyed playing with small world farm animals and characters to create their own stories.

This weeks learning

The children have enjoyed a variety of activities with friends and teachers. We have been counting and learning about numerals, practicing our ICT skills with older helpers and developing our gross motor movements.

Nursery rhyme of the week

This week the children have enjoyed singing along to This Little Piggy during group time. They have enjoyed learning new actions to the song which traditionally involves gently wriggling a toe at a time during the nursery rhyme.

Bedtime story Scheme

Books will be sent home every FRIDAY.

Please return all books by WEDNESDAY.

Unfortunately books which are lost or damaged will need to be paid for.

PLEASE RETURN THE BOOKS EACH WEEK. 

All books will need to be returned in the last week of each term 

Focus child Meetings

Each week children will be chosen to be observed by their keyworker. Emails will be sent home to inform parents of the upcoming parent meeting taking place the following week, either in person or via telephone. Parents will have an opportunity to complete a form asking questions and sharing concerns they may have for the key worker to answer during the parent meeting. This form will be sent via email. Please check your emails weekly for school communications and evidence me parents share from your children's teachers. Parents are welcome to upload pictures and videos of their children at home. 

Chicken pox

We would like to make all parents aware that some children within the class have come down with chicken pox. Chicken pox commonly appears as small red spots which eventually blister. Chicken pox is contagious. We have included a link from the NHS with information regarding chicken pox and what to look for. Please check your children regularly for spots. Please keep children at home until the spots have cleared up to prevent further spread of the virus and seek medical attention if required.

Key Information

Please LABEL  all your children's belongings, including both shoes. Please do not send your child in with a school bag as we have very limited space and all spare clothing should be stored in the nursery. Please do not send your child in with water bottles as we have cups stored in the nursery. Most importantly please do not allow children to bring toys from home into the nursery as they may get lost, cause conflict with other children or become a dangerous hazard. All resources in the nursery are risk assessed and age appropriate to maintain the children's safety.

Well done to all the children. They coped really well with the last minute change of plans, due to the unpredictable weather conditions. We hope you enjoyed watching your children take part and it was a great opportunity for you to meet Mr Portway our sports coach.
