Reception Learning - W.C 19.1.26

 

Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Little Red Riding Hood.


.

Here is what we have been up to:The children have been listening to the story, learning about stranger danger, writing get well soon cards to Grandma, learning all about wolves and making great choices during independent learning time.


The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In Literacy, we have been writing wanted posters for the Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. The children used their sound knowledge to write words including sharp claws, long tail, grey fur and mean. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Watch this video for set  1 sound practise - Set 1 sounds





In Maths this week the children have been focusing on capacity. Capacity is the maximum amount that something can contain. We tested out how many animals our boats could hold before sinking and practised using scales. We learnt words such as heavy, balanced and light.

Reception Learning - W.C 12.1.26

 

Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was The Enormous Turnip. 

Here is what we have been up to: The children have been listening to the story, learning about root vegetables, tasting vegetable soup, learning to keep trying when something is difficult, acting out the story and making great choices during choosing time.



The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In Literacy, we have been writing words/phrases about turnips. The children used their sound knowledge to describe a turnip including big, hard , round, white and purple. We also learnt about red words and spelt has, a and is. Remember you can’t fred a red. This means you can not sound out red words. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). In Maths this week the children have been focusing on numbers 0-5. The children have been developing the skill of perceptual subitising. This form of subitising refers to instantly recognising the number of objects in a group without needing to count them.

Reception - What we are learning W.C 5.1.26

 

Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Jack and the Beanstalk. 

Here is what we have been up to: The children have been listening to the story, learning about the life cycle of a bean, acting out the story, talking about what they would like to find at the top of a beanstalk, making their own beanstalks in the art area and making fantastic choices during independent choosing time.


The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In literacy we have been writing words about Jack and the Beanstalk. They used their sound knowledge to write words such as Jack, egg, hen, mad and run. We also learnt about red words and spelt the. Remember you can’t fred a red. This means you can not sound out red words. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). In Maths this week the children have been focusing on numbers 0-5. We looked at zero and understanding that the amount zero means "nothing there," "none," or "all gone". We went on a zero walked and spotted zero children in the playground, zero birds in the tree and zero fish in the pond. We also looked at adding one more and one less onto numbers 1-5.

Reception What We Are Learning W/B 15.12.25

 

Year Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was: The Christmas Pine.

Here is what we have been up to: the children have had a brilliant week with lots of Christmas activities! They had lots of fun at the disco and played lots of fun games and enjoyed dancing to festive tunes. They all had a lovely Christmas dinner on Tuesday. The children enjoyed pulling crackers and wearing their party hats. ended a fun-filled week with a Christmas party in their classrooms where they played party games and had party food. 






The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children have all been assessed and are now working in groups based on this. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).


In Maths this week the children have been working on their number formation. They practised writing numbers 4-10. The children also worked hard on completing patterns and worked on one less with numbers 1-5.

Reception What We Are Learning W/B 08.12.25

Year Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Stick Man.

Here is what we have been up to:


The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children worked hard to write letters to Santa. They used their sound mats to find the initial sounds in words. They also tried to sound out and write what presents they would like from Santa. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).



In Maths this week the children have learnt about day and night. They were able to tell their partner their morning routines and could say what events take place in the day and what events happen at night. 


Christmas Songs and Sparkle

The children worked so hard and did an amazing job during our Christmas Songs and Sparkle performance this week. The children had a wonderful day making Christmas biscuits, reindeer food and other Christmas crafts. 






Festive fun run!


This week the children participated in some festive fun! Every child got a Santa hat to wear and we enjoyed running around listening to Christmas tunes.

Reception What We Are Learning W/B 01.12.25

 

Year Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Winter: A Solstice Story.

Here is what we have been up to: we have learnt all about the season of Winter. 


The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc.  The children worked hard to write Christmas cards this week. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc).

In Maths this week the children have been learning about different 4 sided shapes. They learnt about squares and rectangles and were able to explain the differences between the two.
