Reception Trip- Call Of The Wild Zoo

Dear Parents/ Carers,

On Friday 10th July, Reception children will be visiting Call Of The Wild Zoo. On the day of the trip, children need to arrive in the morning at normal school time (8.30am) and we will be leaving promptly at 9.00am and returning to school at approximately 3pm.

The cost of the travel and entrance fee must be paid for and we must ask that you make a voluntary contribution of £20 per child to cover these costs. This must be paid via ParentPay. In accordance with the New Education Reform Bill there is no obligation for parents to pay the voluntary contribution and no pupil will be omitted from the visit because his/her parents are unwilling or unable to pay. However, in practice, educational visits can only take place if sufficient contributions are received. If sufficient donations are not received, we may need to cancel the visit. Thank you for your anticipated support. Children should wear normal school uniform and comfortable shoes and will need to bring with them/ wear on the day the following:

A waterproof coat.
Packed lunch in a named, plastic (disposable) bag.
A hat and to be wearing sun cream (if we are fortunate enough to have hot weather).

Year Reception: What We Are Learning

Our focus book was Elmer:

.Here is what we have been up to: The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. They revisited the first 16 sounds from Set 1 to reinforce their phonics knowledge. Please continue to read with your children and work on these sounds with them.

In Topic, we have been learning about diversity. We have celebrated our differences and understood that we all belong!

In Maths this week the children have been learning about patterns. They worked hard to continue the repeated patterns. The children also worked in pairs to create a repeating pattern with action images. Well done Reception for your hard work in Maths this week!

“Be bright, be seen”

We spread awareness of road safety and ensure the children can easily be seen when near traffic.

Next week, as part of our Expressive Arts and Design curriculum, the children will be making wands linking to the story Room on the Broom. To make the wands we will need sticks and dried leaves. If you go out on a walk, please do collect some and bring them into school for us to use before next Friday.

Reception Stay and Learn Wednesday 21st May

 

Dear parents and carers,

Reception have their last Stay and Learn session 2.30 - 3pm on Wednesday 21st  May.

The session will be a topic lesson, focusing specifically on ways to help your child learn.

Please arrive on time and wait outside the usual doors to the right of the main office and a member of staff will let you in.

We would love for as many of you to attend as possible.

Year Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Sharing A Shell.

Here is what we have been up to:

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children have been learning the sounds e, l, h, r, and j.  Please continue to read with your children and work on these sounds with them. 

In Maths this week the children have been working hard to sort objects by colour, shape or size. They also found different ways to sort themselves such as into girls and boys, by height, or hair colour. In addition to this, they compared amounts using the language more or less. The children also made their own sorting rules. Well done Reception for your excellent Maths work this week!

Year Reception: What We Are Learning 

Reception have been working really hard this week. 

 In Literacy this week the children have been reading The Colour Monster. We discussed our emotions and how we feel. We have also learnt how to use our in class Zones of Regulation.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc his week. Our sounds were i, n, p, g and o. Please continue to read with your children and work on the sounds they have learnt in school.  

In Maths this week the children have bee practising number formation 1- 10

Space

This half term we are learning about Inventions and Discoveries.

This week our topic was space. Our focus story was Whatever Next!

In maths, we have been exploring 1 more / 1 less and number bonds to 10. 

In Literacy, we have been writing Mother’s Day cards.

Trains

This half term we are learning about Inventions and Discoveries.

This week our topic was trains. Our focus story was The Train Ride.

In maths, we have been representing 9 and 10.

In Literacy, we has been writing a sentence from the story we read.

Toy Donations:

If you have any unwanted toys that you would like to donate, please could you drop them off to Mrs Marie in Aspen class. We would love any dressing up clothes, action figures, dolls, dinosaurs, cars, Happy Land, etc! Thank you!

WOW certificates

Before the half term,

your child came home with two WOW certificates . Please could you return these to school this week so that we can put them on display. One certificate is for achievements inside school, and the other is for achievements outside of school. If you have misplaced yours, please let your class teacher know.

Bags

Please could we ask that you do not send your child in with any other bag unless it is a packed lunch or it is their reading day. We have limited space for coat and bag storage and many items are becoming lost / damaged due to the high volume of bags. Thank you!

Topic:

The Gingerbread Man

We read the book and encouraged the children to join in with repeated refrains and talk about the story characters and events. We discussed the ways in which the characters tried to catch the Gingerbread Man and talked about how that might have made the Gingerbread Man feel. We also looked at real gingerbread man biscuits, buttons, root ginger and ground ginger. We used our senses to touch, feel and smell the objects.

We also made and decorated our own gingerbread man biscuits.
