Reception's Green Fingers!

The Reception children have busy this year looking after their three flower beds. Over the course of the year we have been weeding, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and doing a ittle bit more weeding. The flower beds are looking particularly green right now with herbs, beans, tomatoes, sunflowers and of course apples! The children have really enjoyed caring for the plants and have been very observant noticing changes on a regular basis.

Today we re-planted our sunflowers that we planted in teams during the first half of the summer term - you may remember from our sharing assembly! They are looking strong and healthy and need a lot of water. "Wow, look at all these roots" said Thomas as we took the sunflower out of its pot. The beans we also planted whilst reading Jack and the Beanstalk have grown well past our castles in the cloud and Miss Richardson's bean frame is nearly invisible! The beans have flowered and we are starting to see some beans hiding in between the leaves.

"Look at the beans, they are hiding in the leaves" Ethan
"It's not called mud, it's called soil" Augustas
"Can we eat the apples?" Ella

Tropical Wings

A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who supported us on our Tropical Wings Trip.  We couldn't have done it without you.  Also a massive thank you to Danny's Nan for buying all 90 children a pencil, to remember their day by.  The children can use these to write their recounts of their trip.

We had such a wonderful day, the children watched a wildlife show in Animal Kingdom, where they were introduced to a skunk, cockroach and bearded dragon.  They also explored the park where they had the opportunity to pet goats, watch the wallabies and lemurs being fed, meet the meerkats and walk through the beautiful butterfly enclosure.

Lilly Lockhart was amazed as she pointed to a gigantic butterfly "That's beautiful Miss"
Richie said "Can we come again?"
Ethan explained to his group "the porcupine uses its spikes to protect itself from predators like lions."
"A butterfly landed on my arm, I was really brave and still." Abdulamlik

Year 1 Transition:
As previously mentioned your children will be meeting their new class teacher on Thursday, furthermore they will spend their lunch time on the large field this week.
Now that your child is moving to year 1 they will be getting changed for PE.  Please ensure that they have a white t-shirt and navy blue shorts along with some plimsolls, in a PE bag, all items including the bag must be named, please bring this in in September.
Some parents have asked what they can be doing over the summer to prepare their child for year 1, please just keep reading with them every day.  Furthermore you need to ensure they know the red high frequency words, both sheets 1 and 2.  If they are confident readers this will ease their transition into year 1.  Please ask a member of staff if you need another copy of the red words
We hope you have a lovely restful summer and look forward to seeing you all in September.

Reminder: Nursery Trip Tomorrow

 Reminder

We are very excited to take Nursery on their first school trip tomorrow. The children will all need to be at school by 8.45 am (both Morning and Afternoon session children) so that we can be seated on the coach and leave at 9am.  They will then be collected at 2.45pm.
The day will involve a tractor ride to see how the crops grow, a visit to the farm animals and an opportunity to make their own bread from scratch. Time permitting we will also visit the playbarns.

The children should wear normal uniform but ensure they have comfortable shoes for walking. Temperatures look like they will stay warm for tomorrow so cool clothes like shorts/summer dresses would be a good idea. They will need to wear socks to use the play facilities.

Lunch will need to be in a named plastic bag rather than a lunchbox/rucksack.

We look forward to seeing Nursery bright and early tomorrow!

Reception's Surprise!

The Reception children have been reading the text Handas's Surprise this week, if your not familiar with the story it is based in Kenya and is about a girl called Handa who decides to take a selection of fruit to her friend in another village.  The children have been highly engaged with the text and have demonstrated resourcefulness while researching Kenya's key features and making comparisons to this Country.
The children expressed an interest in the exotic fruit, therefore we decided to do some fruit tasting.  All of the children were excited to try the fruit and talk about their likes and dislikes.
