Nursery Learning- 10.02.23

 Nursery learning

Guess how much I love you?

Our focus story last week was 'Guess how much I love you?', a story about a little bunny that loves his mummy very much. The children have enjoyed taking part in some activities linked to the story and their interests this week.

The children enjoyed collecting and counting the hearts in the colored rice. They sorted and scooped and used paint brushes and wooden sticks to make marks in the tray.

We added some limes and lemons to our water area this week with juicers. The children enjoyed twisting and squeezing the fruit and were thrilled as they watched the juice empty into the water tray. They have also been really interested in trying to build ramps for cars, we encouraged this by adding planks of wood to the building area and the children have been enjoying racing their cars down these and predicting which ones will be the fastest! The playdough area was very popular this week, the children helped to make some red, sparkly dough and used pipe cleaners to carefully make holes in their dough. There were lots of opportunities for counting in order during this activity!

In our art corner this week we have been busy printing using our fingers or vegetables. The children have been inspired to make some lovely cards and pictures for their friends and family.

Brilliant Builders

We have very creative children in our Nursery and this week they have been showing off their building skills! They worked together to create a 'tiny town' for the figurine and a tower that was taller than them. The helped each other when the tower began to wobble and also when they wasn't tall enough to reach the top. Super collaboration all round!

High in the sky

We love seeing the children risk assessing and taking risks, carefully. It's how they find their boundaries and get to know what their limits are. These children were having a great time jumping from the outdoor equipment. They started off low, concentrating on how they land with squashy knees and they built their confidence to jump off of the higher platform.

Super snacks

This week the children are continuing with their super snacks and this week we were making pizza bagels! They spread the sauce, helped great the chees and then we toasted them. They went down a storm! .

Wet, Wet, Wet!

We love the water in the summer but even on the colder days, we still use it to explore. Here the children were hosting a giant's tea party. They used smaller containers to fill up the larger teapot, meaning they had more control over the water.

Nursery certificates- 10.02.23

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

A big congratulations to Luna, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her interactions this week. Luna was spotted helping children and playing nicely with her friends in different areas of the nursery. Well done Luna, keep it up!

A huge well done to Daniel, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for always having a smile when approaching his learning. Daniel is always keen to try new activities in the environment and approaches everything with a positive attitude.

This week we compared mass using everyday items. We made direct comaprisons by holding items to estimate which is the heaviest and which is the lightest and using balance scales.

The children were given opportunities to explore and discuss weight, including the common misconception that larger items are always heavier.

Ryan: " This is the lighter side"

Issam: "It's the same!"

Adam: "This box is heavier"

Jaxon: "Let's make this side heavier"

Key vocabulary:

Heavy, light, heavier, lighter, heaviest, lightest, balance, scales, equal
