Nursery Weekly Newsletter






Term: Summer 2 Date 08.07.13

The children have had a great time creating the Pirate Ship. They have been making treasure maps and developing their imaginative and language skills through all the wonderful role play.
We will be reading various pirate stories and looking at non-fiction texts this week. We will also be singing ‘When I was one’ and ‘A Sailor went to Sea Sea Sea’.

Personal, Social and Emotional
Can play in a group extending and elaborating play ideas e.g building up role play activity with other children.
Initiates play, offering cues to peers to join in.
Confident to talk to other children when playing and will communicate freely about own home and community.

 Communication and Language                                              
 Uses vocabulary focused on objects and people that are of particular importance to them.
 Uses intonation, rhythm and phrasing to make meaning clear to others.
 Describes main story setting, events and principles of characters.

 Physical Development:
 Runs skilfully and negotiates space successfully, adjusting speed or direction to avoid obstacles.
 Draws lines or circles using gross motor movements.
 Holds pencil with thumb and two fingers no longer using whole hand grasp.

 Mathematics
Uses some number names and number language spontaneously.
Beginning to represent numbers using fingers, marks on paper or pictures.
Sometimes matches numeral and quantity correctly

Understanding of the World
Realizes tools can be used for a purpose.
Knows that information can be retrieved from computers.
Knows how to operate simple equipment, e.g. turns on CD player and uses remote control.
Expressive Arts and Design
Explores and learns how sounds can be changed
Builds stories around toys, e.g. farm animals needing rescue from an armchair ‘cliff’.
Uses available resources to create props to support role play.

Literacy
Learning about the sound ‘g’
Beginning to be aware of the way stories are structured.
Knows that print carries meaning and in English is read from left to right and top to bottom.
Ascribes meanings to marks they see in different places
Messages.
Thank you to all of you who have been sending in objects beginning with the sound of the week, this week the sound is ‘g’.

This week is International week and we will be learning all about Romania. One of our parents has kindly agreed to bring in some information and photographs, we can’t wait.
Sports day will take place on Wednesday 10th July at 10.45 am for morning children and 2.45pm for the afternoon,
