Nursery Weekly Newsletter


Term:  Summer 1 Date: 12.05.14

We are looking forward to a visit from the Fire Brigade this week. This is always a memorable visit (fingers crossed they don’t get called out on a ‘shout’). The children usually get an opportunity to sit in the Fire Engine and are sometimes luck enough to use the hose (with a helping hand)!

The story this week will be ‘Mr Clumsy’ and a Fireman Sam story. The songs will be ‘The Five little Firemen’ and some other traditional songs.

Personal, Social and Emotional
Begins to accept the needs of others and can take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others.
Keeps play going by responding to what others are saying or doing.
Can tell adults when hungry or tired.

Communication and Language
Uses a range of tenses.
Responds to simple instructions.
Can retell a past event in the correct order. 

Physical Development:
Uses one handed tools.
Can stand momentarily on one foot when shown.
Can catch a large ball.

Mathematics
Begins to make comparisons between quantities.
Show an interest in representing numbers.
Knows that a group of object changes in quantity when something is added or taken away.

Understanding of the World
Shows an interest in different occupations and ways of life.
Shows an interest in technological toys with knobs or pulleys or real life objects such as mobiles or cameras. Knows how to operate simple equipment.
Shows care and concern for living things and the environment.

Expressive Arts and Design
Sings a few familiar songs
Beginning to move rhythmically.
Imitates movement in response to music Engages in imaginative role play based on own first hand experiences. 

Literacy
Suggest how the story might end.
Listen’s to stories with increasing attention and recall.
Shows interest in illustrations and print in books and print in the environment. Gives meaning to marks.

Messages.
We will continue to learn our sounds, this week we will focus on ‘d’ , your child can bring something in beginning with ‘d’, please write your child’s name on it if possible.
