Weekly Nursery Newsletter 9.12.14

Term: Autumn 2

We will continue with our colour topic. Our colour of the week will be silver. Our story of the week is ‘Stickman’ , we will continue to sing our Christmas Songs.

The children have been completing various Christmas art activities and will continue to do so this week.

Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Remembers where objects belong.
  • Expresses own preferences and interests.
  • Develops own likes and dislikes in food and drink.
Communication and Language
  • Repeats words or phrases from familiar stories.
  • Holds a conversation, jumping from topic to topic.
  • Uses language as a powerful means of widening contacts, sharing feeling
Literacy
  • Beginning to use representation to communicate, e.g. drawing a line and saying 'That's me.'Repeats words or phrases from familiar stories.
  • Beginning to use three fingers (tripod grip) to hold writing tools.
  • Imitates drawing simple shapes such as circles and lines.
Physical Development
  • Climbs confidently and is beginning to pull themselves up on nursery play climbing equipment
  • Runs safely on whole foot.
  • Shows control in holding and using jugs to pour, hammers, books and mark-making tools.
Mathematics
  • Selects a small number of objects from a group when asked, for example, 'please give me one', 'please give me two'.
  • Creates and experiments with symbols and marks representing ideas of number.
  • Knows that a group of things changes in quantity when something is added or taken away.

Understanding of the World
  • Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment

Expressive Arts and Design
  • Notices and is interested in the effects of making movements which leave marks.

  • Enjoys playing with small-world models such as a farm, a garage, or a train track.
Learning Challenge

As mentioned previously, each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.
