Nursery Weekly Newsletter 12.1.15

We had a great start back in the Nursery, the children have been using the castle and they have been developing many skills doing so, including language and social skills. Our story of the week is ‘The Gingerbread Man’. They will be using the theatre to retell the story and they will also be making Gingerbread Men. Our songs of the week will be ‘The Shape Song’ and ‘Humpty Dumpty’.
We had a fantastic start to introducing the phonics, the next sound we teach is ‘a’. However we will continue with all of our literacy games which include rhyming and alliteration activities, along with our shape and number activities.
Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Responds to the feelings and wishes of others.
  • Remembers where objects belong.
  • Expresses own preferences and interests.
Communication and Language
  • Beginning to understand 'why' and 'how' questions.
  • Understands 'who', 'what', 'where' in simple questions (e.g. Who's that/can? What's that? Where is.?).
  • Developing understanding of simple concepts (e.g. big/little).
Literacy
  • Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories.
  • Shows interest in play with sounds, songs and rhymes.
  • Repeats words or phrases from familiar stories.
Physical Development
  • Develops likes and dislikes for food.
  • Willing to try new food.
  • Shows control in holding and using jugs, hammers, books and mark making tools.
Mathematics
  • Selects a small number of objects from a group when asked, for example, 'please give me one', 'please give me two'.
  • Knows that a group of things changes in quantity when something is added or taken away
  • Notices simple shapes and patterns in pictures
Understanding of the World
  • Enjoys playing with small world models, such as farms.
  • Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment
  • Learns that they have similarities and differences that connect them to, and distinguish them from, others.
Expressive Arts and Design
  • Joins in singing favourite songs.
  • Notices and is interested in the effects of making movements which leave marks.
  • Experiments with blocks, colours and marks
Learning Challenge
 
As mentioned last week, each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning, this is in line with the rest of the school. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.
The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class however the table below details some ideas for the learning challenge.
Poem/Song to learn: 5 Little Speckled Frogs
Five little speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious grubs - yum, yum
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four green speckled frogs - glub, glub.

Nursery Rhyme Painting Person
1.. Learn it off by heart.
 
2. Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme.

3. To draw a picture in a similar style.
1. Draw a portrait of the traditional tale character.

The Shape Song
 
First there is a circle round as can be,
then there is a square 4 equal sides has he,

Humpty Dumpty
