Reception Newsletter 08.02.16

Thank you to all the parents and carers that attended the Reading Stay and Play last week. We hope you found the information useful. If you were unable to attend or would like more information there are lots of videos available for parents on the RWI website: www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents

If you have any requests for a particular focus to base our next Stay and Play on please talk to a member of the Reception team.

This week we will focus our learning around Chinese New Year. We will be listening to Chinese Music and creating our own dragon dances!

Practicing resilience - The children will be encouraged to keep trying when tasks may be hard and beginning to overcome difficulties themselves.
Explains own knowledge and understanding, and asks appropriate questions of others.

We are focusing on teaching the children what a question is and how to ask one - using question stems such as Who? What? Why? How? Where?
Encouraging children to ask ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions in their play.

Physical Development:
Experimenting with different ways of moving when creating our Chinese Dance.
Adjusting Speed and changing direction.

Acting out the story of the animal race that led to Chinese New Year.
Encouraging the children to use their phonics in their play and write simple captions.

Mathematics:
The children really enjoyed learning about money last week. The activities will be available for them to access in their play this week. If you go to the shops with your child please let them pay for small items to help them to appreciate the value of money.
This week we are developing our estimating and counting skills.

Understanding of the World:
Miss Poulter created a QR treasure hunt last week that the children really enjoyed. They had to use the ipad to scan the different codes and then use their phonics to write down what they could see.
This week we will have a QR code treasure hunt related to the animals of Chinese New Year.
Shows interest in different ways of life - Chinese New Year.

Expressive Arts and Design:
