Reception Newsletter 10.06.19

Term: Summer 2         Date: 10.06.19

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have settled back into school after the holidays and it was lovely to hear what everyone got up to over the break. It has been fantastic to see so many children coming down the ramp independently in the mornings, keep it up!

The children loved reading ’Tadpole’s Promise’ last week. It sparked lots of discussion and the children very excited for the arrival of our caterpillars. We will be observing them change over the next few weeks.

This week we start our new topic about the world. We will be reading Handa’s Surprise and Handa’s Hen. We are extremely excited for Eileen Brown to visit on Wednesday, the author of both of these books!

We are very excited about our final trip of the year to Weald Park, where we will become pirates for the day! Please complete the Google form on facebook or the blog. If you are having trouble, please check in with your class teacher. We will also be looking for parent volunteers to help on the trip. Thank you to everyone who has already filled this out and paid via sQuid.

Communication and Language
We are encouraging children to use talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.

Physical Development

As we continue to develop the children’s fine motor strength we are now also focussing on their letter and number formation as well. Particularly encouraging and correcting backwards formed letters and numbers. The children are busy practising for Sports Day in their PE lessons.

Maths
This week we will be recapping pattern and 3D shape. We will also be looking at doubling and singing one of our favourite songs, the doubling rap.

Literacy
The children will writing speech bubbles for this week's writing challenge. We will also be discussing and writing about our ideal way to travel to school.

Understanding the World
Along with observing our caterpillars, we will looking at Kenya and comparing it to Harold Hill. We will also be tasting all of the fruits from the story as it is healthy eating week.

Messages
As it it the final half term in Reception we will be looking at a few things to make the transition into year one as smooth as possible. Some children have already started to walk down the ramp to their classrooms on their own (or with friends). We will be encouraging all of the children to walk down the ramp independently in the mornings. There is no rush to do this immediately, but only when you and your child feel they are ready. Staff will welcome the children as usual and support with choosing lunch or putting their things away if needed. We would hope most of the children will be able to achieve this by the end of the summer term.

If you would like to contact a member of the EYFS team via email the address it is: eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Kind Regards,
The Reception Team
