This week kicked off with a very busy Monday! The children had been practising their Christmas songs and were thrilled to share their hard work with parents and extended family members. After their performance, they enjoyed a variety of festive activities, including writing a wish upon a star and placing it on the tree, creating Christmas wreaths with tissue paper and sequins, using a Christmas-decorated photo frame, reading Christmas stories, and drawing around Christmas-themed stencils.
After all the fun and activities, the children gathered together on the carpet, snuggling up on a blanket to enjoy a Christmas “bedtime” story. They listened beautifully, spotting a cheeky elf and presents hiding beneath the tree. Once the parents had left, the children tucked into a warm hot chocolate—the perfect ending to a magical Lapland Experience.
Later in the week, the children took part in a special postcard-sending activity. We walked to our local post office and mailed a Christmas card to our families. The children loved creating their cards—and even decorating the envelopes! We hope our Nursery families enjoy their festive surprises. 🎄✨
In our provision, the children used buttons to decorate snowmen, carefully gripping and placing the small pieces to create beautiful patterns. They loved naming the colours of the buttons and proudly showing their designs to their friends.
This week’s water play enhancement was bubbles and the children absolutely loved exploring them!
The children used their hands to scoop, squeeze and pat the bubbles, discovering new textures as they played. One child described the bubbles as “bouncy and soft,” which led to lots of wonderful discussion about what they felt like and how they behaved.
The children then began experimenting with movement. They gently blew on the bubbles and watched with fascination as they separated, drifted and floated into the air. Some bubbles stayed together in little clusters, while others broke apart and danced away on their own.
It was a beautiful sensory experience that encouraged language development, curiosity and early scientific thinking as the children predicted, tested and observed what would happen next.
Festive Wishes,
The Nursery Team
