Reception Weekly Newsletter

Term: Spring 1 Date 04.02.13

The children enjoyed walking to the library and being issued with a library card. Every child was giving a book to borrow. Please return the books back to Hilldene library and enjoy the free services that they offer.

We are continuing with our topic ‘We love Toys’. This week your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

Continuing with encouraging the children to see themselves as powerful and in charge of their own learning and identifying their own strengths.

Communication and Language

The children need to be bringing in their reading books daily. We sent home reading letters last week explaining exactly which day we will hear your child read. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have reward system in place. Well done to Isabelle for earning her Silver Award; this means she has now read 50 books.

Physical

Playing on the bikes, with the hoops and balls.

Superhero activities in the hall. Set up a training school for the children to develop their speed and responses. Which equipment can the children use accurately?

We will be discussing ways that the children can keep their bodies’ fit and healthy while at school, so that they can be as fit as a superhero. We will be asking the children to contribute ideas for posters to be displayed around the room e.g. toilets, sinks, snack area, outdoor area.

Literacy

Writing our names encouraging correct pencil grip.

We will be continuing our daily Read Write Inc sessions.

Making Superhero logos.

Maths

Make superheroes using pre-cut shapes. Children to describe using mathematical terms.

Exploring ‘Ten Town’ encouraging correct number formation.

Talk about how some superheroes have super strength. The children will be weighing objects and decided which is the heaviest. Can they order two, then three objects? To encourage the children to use weight related vocabulary.
