Reception Newsletter 07.01.19

Term: Spring 1                         Date: 07.01.19

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year to all of our children and families. We hope you have all had a restful and relaxing holiday and are ready for the spring term. We will start the term of by revisiting expectations within the setting, modelling resources and discussing our holidays.

Can we please ask that your child has their reading folder in school on their reading day so that their reading books can be changed. If you are unsure of what day this is, please ask. A staff member will read with your child on this day also writing in their record. Remember to write in your child’s reading record each time you read together at home, as these will be counted towards reading awards as well as letting staff know how your child is getting on at home. You should be aiming to read together for around ten minutes on most days.

This term we will be looking at a range of traditional tales. This week we will be reading The Gingerbread Man. The children will be joining in with repeated refrains and rhymes from the story and making their own gingerbread men.

Personal, Social and Emotional DevelopmentWe will be revisiting expectations within the setting, how to look after resources as well as playing some team games.

Maths
We are recapping our number recognition and formation this week. We will be playing bingo, ordering numbers 0-10 as well as re-looking at different number representations.

Literacy
We will be joining in with repeated refrains and rhyming words from the story. The children will discuss and label the main characters from the story.

Cooking
The children will be working in small groups to make gingerbread men. They will be encouraged to work as a team and follow the instructions as independently as possible.

Dates for your diary:

Maths Stay & Learn Session: Tuesday 22nd January at 2.15pm

Literacy Stay & Learn Session: Tuesday 12th March

Learning Challenge
Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge is optional and will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.

This is an ongoing activity that should take place over a number of weeks, it should be the children’s own work (supported by the parents).
