Nursery learning 13.6.25

What a fabulous week we have had...

Book of the week...

Exploring Positional Language

This week, we’ve been focusing on developing the children’s understanding of key positional vocabulary. Through a range of hands-on activities, we encouraged the children to explore and use words such as under, on top, behind, next to, and to the side.

Using everyday objects, the children had great fun moving things around to match these positions—and describing what they were doing as they went! It was a fantastic way to build language skills through play and practical learning.

Stay and Play Sports Day Fun!

We had a fantastic time at this week’s Stay and Play, which had a lively Sports Day theme! The children were thrilled to take part in a variety of activities alongside their grown-ups, showing off their skills and energy.

It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to join in the fun and explore the nursery environment. The children absolutely loved sharing their favourite spaces and activities—and showing you all the things they get up to during their day!

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a special morning and afternoon. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Green-Fingered Gardeners!

Our little gardeners have been hard at work this week, making sure our fruit and vegetable plants are thriving in the warm weather. With watering cans in hand, the children carefully gave the plants a good drink, added extra soil where needed, and even checked for any unwanted visitors, like sneaky snails and slugs!

This activity links beautifully to the EYFS Understanding the World area of learning, as children begin to explore and make sense of the natural world around them. They’re learning how living things grow, what plants need to survive, and how to care for the environment, developing a real sense of responsibility and curiosity along the way.

Snipping and Shaping in the Malleable Area

This week in our malleable area, the children have been developing their fine motor skills by using scissors to cut through rolled playdough. They had so much fun experimenting with different shapes and techniques, all while strengthening the muscles in their hands and fingers.

Growing Independence at Snack Time

Our children are embracing every opportunity to show their independence—especially in the snack area! They've been busy practising pouring their own drinks, and although we've had our fair share of spills, the pride and excitement they show while doing it themselves is wonderful to see.

This supports the Personal, Social and Emotional Development area of the EYFS, as children build confidence in their own abilities and develop important self-care skills. It also links to Physical Development, helping to strengthen coordination and control.

We love watching their independence grow each day!
