Reception Learning - W.C 12.1.26

Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was The Enormous Turnip.

Here is what we have been up to: The children have been listening to the story, learning about root vegetables, tasting vegetable soup, learning to keep trying when something is difficult, acting out the story and making great choices during choosing time.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In Literacy, we have been writing words/phrases about turnips. The children used their sound knowledge to describe a turnip including big, hard , round, white and purple. We also learnt about red words and spelt has, a and is. Remember you can’t fred a red. This means you can not sound out red words. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Watch this video for set  1 sound practise - Set 1 sounds

In Maths this week the children have been focusing on numbers 0-5. The children have been developing the skill of perceptual subitising. This form of subitising refers to instantly recognising the number of objects in a group without needing to count them.

Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
