Reception: What We Are Learning
Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was Jack and the Beanstalk.
Here is what we have been up to: The children have been listening to the story, learning about the life cycle of a bean, acting out the story, talking about what they would like to find at the top of a beanstalk, making their own beanstalks in the art area and making fantastic choices during independent choosing time.
The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. In literacy we have been writing words about Jack and the Beanstalk. They used their sound knowledge to write words such as Jack, egg, hen, mad and run. We also learnt about red words and spelt the. Remember you can’t fred a red. This means you can not sound out red words. Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Watch this video for set 1 sound practise - Set 1 sounds
In Maths this week the children have been focusing on numbers 0-5. We looked at zero and understanding that the amount zero means "nothing there," "none," or "all gone". We went on a zero walked and spotted zero children in the playground, zero birds in the tree and zero fish in the pond. We also looked at adding one more and one less onto numbers 1-5.
Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
