Reception Weekly Newsletter

Term: Spring 1 Date 20.01.14

We will be continuing our topic ‘Superheroes’ as the children are really enjoying it and are full of ideas. This week our focus book is ‘Superhero School’.
Your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (although the skills remain the same, the activities may differ):

Personal, Social and  Emotional Development
During Circle time we will be recapping our 4rs: Reciprocity, Resilience, Resourcefulness and Reflectiveness and what this means to our children.

Communication and Language
We will be ‘hot seating' the children pretending to be superheroes. Our aim is to encourage the children to ask 'why' and 'how' questions to find out something new.
Also in small groups throughout the week, children will be playing games to reinforce their understanding of asking and answering questions.
All the children have a set reading day. Please make sure their book is in school at least for their reading day (we will send a home a reminder). We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place. Many children have already received their bronze award.

Physical
Making a Superheroes obstacle course.
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark. All children will need a PE kit in school.

Please continue to read daily with your child and sign their reading record. When your child brings home their words, please practise them as this supports their learning in school.
