When we are older we want to be a chef!

A small group of children in Year 5/6 expressed an interest in becoming chefs when they are older so where better to go than to Pizza Express in Brentwood so they could have an opportunity to look behind the scenes of a restaurant and make their very own pizzas.

The children needed 65g of cheese for their pizza and the oven needed to be 350 degrees. Did you know that it only takes four minutes to cook a classic pizza? To become a chef you need to be confident with measurement, time and ratios. Maths is an important skill which you use all day everyday when you are in the kitchen.

The head chef told the children that he took Food Technology as an option in Secondary School and then went onto collage to study to become a chef.

During the visit the children got to try lots of different toppings which are available in Pizza Express including mushrooms, peppers, goats cheese, sun dried tomatoes, anchovies, artichokes and if they were brave enough red hot chillies!
