Reception Newsletter 18.10.2015

Term: Autumn 1                       Date: 19.10.15
 
                           Our story of the week is ‘The Little Red Hen’.
  
Your child will be taking part in the following activities. (Activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests):

 
Personal, Social and Emotional
  Following on from our story last week ‘The Rainbow Fish’ we will be teaching the children how to play simple board games this week. They encourage turn taking and sharing resources.


Can usually tolerate delay when needs are not immediately met, and understands wishes may not always be me.
Can describe self in positive terms and talk about abilities



Communication and Language
Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events
 Uses a range of tenses (e.g. play, playing, will play, played).
Introduces a storyline or narrative into their play.
 
Physical Development
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Portway
Negotiates space successfully when playing racing and chasing games with other children, adjusting speed or changing direction to avoid obstacles.
Holds pencil between thumb and two fingers, no longer using whole-hand grasp.
Can copy some letters, e.g. letters from their name.
 
Literacy
We will be learning actions to help us re-tell the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’.
We will be continuing with our daily Read, Write Inc. groups.
Hears and says the initial sounds in words.
mple words and blend them together and knows which letters represent some of them.
Writes own name.
Please ensure your child’s reading book is in school on their reading day. 
 
Mathematics
Compares quantities and can explain when they have the same or different amount.
Finds the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them.
 Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved.


Understanding of the World
Completes a simple computer programme.
Can use paint to create a picture. 
 


Expressive Arts and Design
Manipulates materials to achieve a planned effect.
Constructs with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources.
Uses simple tools and techniques competently and appropriately
Creates simple representations of events, people and objects.
Chooses particular colours to use for a purpose.

Messages
The children may bring in something related to our topic for Show and Tell on Friday.
Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes in school just in case they have any little accidents. The spare change of clothes does not have to be school uniform.
