Reception Newsletter 14.12.15

Term:  Autumn 2                          Date 14.12.15

Thank you for all the support you have given us over the last term. The children have settled in to Reception well and have already progressed so much. We were very proud of the Children's Christmas performance last week, it was great to see so many parents and carers supporting the children.  We hope you all have a fantastic Christmas break.

Personal, Social and Emotional

  • Children begin to initiate play with other children independent of adults.
  • Children are confident to talk to other children when playing and will communicate freely about their own home and community.
 Communication and Language

  • Children begin to use complex sentences to link their thoughts.. e.g. He is sad because he fell over.
  • Children use talk to connect ideas, theY explain what is happening and anticipate what might happen next, recall and relieve past experiences.
Literacy

The children have been assessed again for RWI and they are making good progress. This week and next half term we will be focusing on ensuring that all children are able to orally blend words e.g. when they hear c-a-t know that is it cat. The children also need to be able to decode 'alien' or 'nonsense' words such as z-o-p this is to ensure they can use their phonic knowledge to decode any word they come across in their reading.  In the new term we will send out Reading words weekly to support this.

  • Can segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together.
  • Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence.
 Physical Development:

  • Shows some understanding that good practices with regard to exercise, eating, sleeping and hygiene can contribute to good health.
  • Practices some appropriate safety measures without direct supervision.
  • Shows increasing control over an object in pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it.
 Mathematics

  • Orders two items by weight or capacity - We will be weighing presents for Santa this week!
  • Ordering and comparing items by length.
Understanding of the World

  • Talk about why things happen and how things work.
  • Show care and concern for living things and the environment.

Expressive Arts and Design

  • Manipulates materials to achieve a planned effect.
  • Selects tools and techniques needed to shape, assemble and join materials they are using.
