Nursery Newsletter 11.01.16


Term:  Spring 1                          Date 11.01.16

 

We had a great start back in the Nursery, the children have been using the Vets and they have been developing many skills doing so, including language and social skills.  Our story of the week is ‘Dinosaur Stomp’.   Our songs of the week will be ’10 Little Dinosaurs’ and ‘Ba ba black sheep’.

 

We had a fantastic start to introducing the phonics, the next sound we teach is ‘a’.  We will also continue with all of our literacy games which include rhyming and alliteration activities, along with our shape and number activities.

 

Personal, Social and Emotional

  • Plays alongside others.
  • Is aware of others' feelings, for example, looks concerned if hears crying or looks excited if hears a familiar happy voice.
  • Responds to the feelings and wishes of others.

 

Communication and Language

  • Beginning to ask simple questions.
  • Beginning to understand 'why' and 'how' questions.

  • Understands 'who', 'what', 'where' in simple questions(e.g. Who's that/can? What's that? Where is.?).

 

Literacy

  • Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories.
  • Shows interest in play with sounds, songs and rhymes.
  • Repeats words or phrases from familiar stories.

 

Physical Development:

  • Can kick a large ball.
  • Develops likes and dislikes for food.
  • Willing to try new food.

 

Mathematics

  • Notices simple shapes and patterns in pictures.
  • Selects a small number of objects from a group when asked, for example, 'please give me one', 'please give me two'.
  • Knows that a group of things changes in quantity when something is added or taken away

 

 

Understanding of the World

  • Operates mechanical toys, e.g. turns the knob on a wind-up toy or pulls back on a friction car.
  • Enjoys playing with small world models, such as farms.
  • Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and operating some ICT equipment

 

Expressive Arts and Design

  • Joins in singing favourite songs.
  • Notices and is interested in the effects of making movements which leave marks.
  • Experiments with blocks, colours and marks

It was great to see so many of you borrowing the books last week.  Thank you for all of the completed book reviews.
