Reception Newsletter 25.1.16

This week, our superhero is ‘Sportacus’ from the children’s programme ‘Lazy Town’ linking with the theme, ‘Healthy Lifestyles’.

Your child will be taking part in the following activities and routines (Although the skills will remain the same, the activities may differ depending on the children’s interests):

Personal, Social and Emotional:
Developing an understanding that good practices with regard to exercise, eating, sleeping and hygiene can contribute to good health.
Discussing the importance of team work.

Communication and Language:
Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
Encouraging children to ask ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions in their play.

Physical Development:
Hall session: The children will continue to go out in small groups to work with our Sports Coach, Mr. Portway
Talk about the ways that the children can keep their bodies fit and healthy while at school, so that they can be as fit as a superhero.
Taking part in our daily ‘5-a-day’ fitness routines.

Literacy:
Read, Write, Inc. sessions will continue.
Writing recipes and instructions in the role play area.
Writing signs about keeping healthy
Sharing the non-fiction book, ‘Healthy Eating’. Discussing features of non-fiction text.

Mathematics:
Playing number bingo – focussing on recognition and number formation.
Understanding one more than and one less than a given number.
Making a class pictogram of our favourite fruits.
Focussing on doubling and halving when chopping fruit for snack time.
Weighing fruits.

Understanding of the World:
Comparing the similarities and differences of fruits and vegetables.
Naming and sorting fruits and vegetables.

Expressive Arts and Design:
Fruit printing – reinforcing repeating patterns.

Messages:
Next Monday 1st February will be our Read, Write Inc presentation and Stay and Play session. It will start at 9am.
