Numeracy

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

Count back from different starting points. Look at the Number Line to 20. Point to a number and begin counting backwards from that number. Sing Five Little Speckled Frogs and use your fingers to count back. What is happening to the number of frogs on the log each time one jumps into the pool?

Sing the song Ten Green Bottles.

Whilst singing 10 Green Bottles what is happening to the number of bottles each time? How many bottles are left?

Line up all 10 bottles. Use construction and make  a tower of 10 with cubes/lego or duplo. Think about how many will be left if you take more than 1 off the wall. Take 3 away. How many are left? How many bottles did you start with? Practise counting back from 10.

Do we get more or fewer objects when we take away? Use the Number Track to 10 and counters. If at first 5 children were sat on a bus and then 2 children got off, how many are left? Work out the answer. Repeat with other amounts. Can we work out the answers without the bus? Think of different take away stories and count back using your number track and counters. Can you write the number sentences?

Do the numbers get bigger or smaller? Create two large towers of 10 blocks. You can use your construction cubes, large lego or duplo. Work with your big person or another member of your family and play Race to Zero. Take it in turns to roll a dice, take the number you rolled off of your tower, your partner then rolls a dice and does the same to their tower. The first person to get their tower to zero wins.

Go through the subtraction number sums: Take Away. Work with your partner and use cube or lego/duplo towers to 10. Work out the answers using your cubes. Can you write out the answers as number sentences?
