Reception Newsletter 04.03.19

Term: Spring 2                           Date: 04.03.19

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have had a great first week back. They have come in with smiling faces, ready to learn as well as catch up with all their friends. Last week we discussed how we could kep our bodies healthy as well as looking at eating a balanced diet. The children thoroughly enjoyed making and tasting their own smoothies.

Thursday is World Book Day! The children may come to school dressed as a character from a children’s book. The staff will be dressing up as well!

This week we will be reading ‘Superkid’. We will be discussing what makes us super and if we were a superhero what super power we would have.

We will be visiting Jump Evolution on Tuesday 19th March as our trip for the term. Thank you to everybody who has already filled out the form (via the blog or facebook) and paid using their sQuid account. If you have any problems please speak to your class teacher or the office staff if it is about sQuid. Thank you!

Communication and Language The children will be talking about what they would do if they were a superhero. What would their special power be and how would they use it?

Physical Development
We will continue developing obstacles courses whilst outside. The children loved this last week and it was a great way to put many of our physical skills to the test!

Maths
This weeks number is 17. Perhaps you can spot the number at home or outside. We will be looking at shape this week. We will be revisiting our 2D shapes as well as introducing 3D shapes. The children will name a variety of shapes as well as look at the properties. We will also be building our own 3D shapes from cocktail sticks and blu tac.

Literacy
After discussing our chosen super powers, the children will complete personalised speech bubbles. We will be applying our phonics knowledge as well as trying hard to use our finger spaces.

Dates for your diary:

Messages:
We are looking to make a family display in our home corner and would love a photo of your child and their family to display. If you are happy to have a photo of your family displayed please hand to your class teacher or email it to the Early Years email address: eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk. Thank you for the ones we have received already.

Learning Challenge:
Each half term we will be setting our pupils a optional challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home. The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.
