Reception Home Learning Week 6!

Good morning Reception!

We just wanted to say we miss you all lots and hope to see you soon! Keep smiling and enjoying this time with your families.

We have received so many photos of what you have been learning at home, we love them all! Keep them coming in via the email box (eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk) or through Evidence Me.

We hope you enjoyed celebrating VE day on Friday, there was lots of red, white and blue, bunting cakes and colouring!

Here’s what we’ve got planned this week…..

5-a-day
Every day at school we do 5-a-day to get us moving and ready for the day ahead. We have managed to get a login for you to use at home. These are five minute dance routines that have a fun theme, your child will definitely have a favourite or two. Use as a break between activities, switch it in to replace PE with Joe or cosmic yoga. There are also Time-2-Chill routines if you need a calm moment or two.

Maths
We have received lots of brilliant photos of you all getting stuck into Maths at home. There have been some fantastic creative ideas to keep Maths practical and fun. Pasta is proving a popular resource to help with calculations, but we’ve also seen the use of Lego bricks, paper hands and even PEAS! Keep it up!

White Rose Maths
This week's Maths is based around the book The Very Busy Spider. Not quite as well known as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but also written by Eric Carle. You can listen to the story here on YouTube.

Take a look at the activities, choose the ones you would like to do and let us know how you get on. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

  • Have a go at practising some subtraction this week, begin with single digit numbers. Remember subtract means take away. Get creative and keep it practical. Here are a few ideas from bowling to play dough!

  • Go on a shape hunt around your house. Can you sort the shapes/objects into 2D (flat shapes) and 3D shapes (solid shapes)? Can you remember the names of the 3D shapes? There are some tricky ones!

Writing

What do you want to be when you grow up? Have a conversation with your child, plan some sentences first and let them have a go at writing them independently. You might be able to use one of this week's spellings, ‘want’ in your writing. In the word ‘want’ the ‘a’ is tricky as it makes an ‘o’ sound. You could illustrate your writing with a picture. Remember to use your Fred fingers and sound mat to help.

Phonics

Joining in daily with the speed sound lessons, is one of our top recommendations to add into your daily timetable during lockdown. Remember you can find them on YouTube or Facebook.

If your child has been joining in with the set 2 speed sounds lessons daily, you may have noticed that the lessons are beginning to repeat themselves (and may have an earlier date on them). This is because all of the set 2 sounds have been taught. Please keep going with these videos daily, the children will need to revisit the sounds to embed them. This will allow them to apply them when reading and writing. If you feel your child is very confident with these set two sounds, please drop us an email and we will advise you on whether you should move onto set 3.

Here is another fun phonics game you can easily make at home. Find some household items or toys and write out some labels for them. Can your child read the word and match it to the correct object? Think about the items you choose, you might want to underline special friends that have been recently learnt to remind your child or challenge them to spot the special friend unaided. Have fun!

Other Activities
  • Draw a self-portrait of yourself. You could sit in front of a mirror to help you look at your different features. What colour are your eyes and hair? What media and materials will you use?

  • Learn to say hello in five different languages.
  • Help to make lunch or dinner.
  • Play I-spy at home or out on your daily walk. Remember to play using your phonics sounds!

Spellings

It has been great seeing how hard you have been practising your spellings and how well you have done in the weekly spelling tests. We have included some red words this week (think about the tricky bit) and some high frequency words for you to practice. Remember to keep practising the other words you might have found tricky so you can use these in your writing.

Practice writing these spelling everyday, ready for the test on Fridays. One of your teachers will read out these spellings in a video for you to have a go at home. You can find the test on the Facebook page or through the blog on the school website. Good luck!
