Reception Numbers to 5

We have been learning about numbers to 5. The Reception children have been working on subitising numbers to 5 (recognising a number of objects in a small group without counting them) . Counting forwards, and backwards, accurately using the counting principals. The children have been finding different representations of up to five objects on a five frame and learning that if the frame is full then there are five objects. Each week we will be focusing on a new number and recognising different representations such as tally marks, fingers, dots, objects and the numeral.

Scarlet: “We’ve got 3 pillows.”
Thomas: “There’s 5 holes.”

Pippa:  "Down, across, oar in the water!"

Edward: "one"

Lucas: "I found four animals"

We have enjoyed learning how to write our numbers and meeting the fun characters from Ten Town. Ten Town is a maths programme designed to improve number recognition to 20 and number formation.

Aariz: "I can write the number 4!"

Recognising numbers at home:

Go on a number hunt! What numbers can you see around your home or on your way to school? You could look at door numbers, number plates, road signs, food packages or magazines and books.

You can share your photos or drawings using Evidence Me or emailing us at eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Oscar: “Number 5 bus goes to Romford not to my house.”
