Bags

Please could we kindly ask that you do not send your child in with any other bag unless it is a packed lunch or it is their reading day. We have limited space for coat and bag storage and many items are becoming lost / damaged due to the high volume of bags. Thank you!

Topic:

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

We read the book and encouraged the children to join in with repeated refrains and talk about the story characters and events. We talked about homes, and the rooms we have in our own house. Then we researched houses from the past, focusing specifically on Victorian kitchens. We learnt that food had to stored in cupboards and ice boxes as fridges did not exist then. Our kitchens looks very different to how they do now!

We also celebrated Chinese New Year this week

We learnt that dragons are a very important part of Chinese culture and play a large part in Chinese history. A dragon is a symbol of power, strength and good luck and was thought to protect people. Dragon dances are usually performed during Chinese New Year.

The Gingerbread Man

We read the book and encouraged the children to join in with repeated refrains and talk about the story characters and events. We discussed the ways in which the characters tried to catch the Gingerbread Man and talked about how that might have made the Gingerbread Man feel. We also looked at real gingerbread man biscuits, buttons, root ginger and ground ginger. We used our senses to touch, feel and smell the objects.

We also made and decorated our own gingerbread man biscuits.
