Nursery learning week beginning 7.10.24

Important Information 

1. Evidence Me -Over the next month we will start sharing observations on our parent share app. Please do add your own videos and photos from home as parents can also share achievements. Please speak to a member of staff if you cannot access this app. 
2. Spare Clothes - Please leave a bag of spare clothes in Nursery, ideally this will be a labelled plastic bag. This bag should stay in school. 
3. Nappies and wipes - If your child is in nappies and requires changing in Nursery please bring nappies and also a pack of wipes.  You can bring in a pack and leave this here if you would prefer to do this. 
4. Lunches -For the children who stay for lunch, we would like to inform parents Broadford primary is a Heathy Eating school. Please do not provide nut based products such as peanut butter or Nutella as some of our children have nut allergies.
5. Coats - Autumn is now in full swing. We still have lots of opportunities for the children to access our curriculum outside so please ensure they are always appropriately dressed for the weather. Remember to label coats, hats, scarves and gloves too! 

   

                                                    Story Time

We have been focusing on the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' this week. The children have been joining in with phrases from the story. We have been also been creating our own porridge in groups. 

Creative

The children have been painting and decorating their own bears from the story Goldilocks and the three bears. They showed a lot of creativity in choosing colours and materials.

Outdoor Play

The children have enjoyed building in the construction area this week. They have been practising working as a team to make wonderful creations. The children have also enjoyed stacking the crates at different heights.

Thank you again to all of the parents for supporting us to ensure the children have a smooth start to their Nursery year and for being patient at home time whilst staff learn new faces and names.

Please could we ask that we ensure that you are on time for the start and end of sessions. The doors will close at 8.45am in the morning.

5. Meet your key worker - The invites for the parent meeting have been sent via the EvidenceMe parnent share app. The times have also been added to the windows at the front of the nursery. The meeting is a a chance to talk together about how your child has settled, share information from home and decide on targets together. 

We have been focusing on the story 'Peace at Last' this week. The children have been joining in with repeated phrases from the story and recreating the different sounds in the story.

Creative Learning

In the art area the children have had lots of fun creating their own hedgehogs using strips of paper.  This activity allowed them to practice their cutting skills independently, and they truly enjoyed the process of creating something unique on their own.

 They have been speaking about the features of a hedgehog such as the eyes and their sharp prickly spines! They have also been recreating their own hedgehogs in the playdough area. 

Communication and Language 

The children enjoyed making toast this week. They engaged in conversations about the process and listened carefully to the instructions, then carefully spread butter on their toast. The children then had a go at cutting their bread into halves and even quarters! 

 

Outdoor play 

The children have been having lots of fun playing with the oudoor resources. They have taken part in team games, building with the large lego pieces and experimenting with the magnetic pipes!

We would like to encourage the children to collect as many leaves as they can and bring them into nursery next week as part of our classroom Art activity. Thank you :)

Important messages 

• All reading books are changed on a Friday morning. Please ensure your reading folder is placed in the box in the entrance of Nursery by Thursday.
• If your child comes out on Friday without their reading folder, please ask them to go back in and check their tray as it will have been put in there. 
• Please check at home to see if you have any books from Nursery that may have got mixed in with your own books.
• Water play is part of the children's learning which means that sometimes they can get wet. Please ensure that they have a spare set of clothes with them. 
• If you have any of the nurseries clothes (pants/knickers, socks, trousers, legging ect...) please can we ask you to return the clothing items asap as we are running low.
• Donations- we have has a couple of parents donate a bag of socks and and a few other items which has been hugely helpful. If you are having a clear out and have any socks, underwear, bottoms that you no longer require, we would gratefully receive them. 

The sun might not be shining brightly yet but as you can see from Rostam's face, we still have fun in the garden. Rostam was have a great time singing songs about minibeasts with an adult whilst in the garden. 

The children all love Friday mornings as they get to choose their own books to take home. Miss Day talks to each child about what they have been reading and ticks off the returned books.

Water play whatever the weather! The children love using the tap to fill up different containers. This week their mission was to try and fill up the water trays by carrying water in a container of their choice.

Super job by Vedashi this week. After painting a picture, she independently wrote her own name on her painting, using paint! 

Look at our 2 year olds go! This week in the snack area we were making banana milkshakes. The children loved chopping and mashing up the bananas and pouring the milk (or oat milk separately)  but the most exciting part was watching it all blend together in the mixer. The children then poured themselves a cup of milkshake.

Super building from the boys in the construction area today. They spent a long time working together creating their building. It was fantastic to observe their concentration and collaboration.

It's been another busy week in nursery! 

Incredibly Icy

The chilly weather just mean there is more to explore. The children were thrilled when they went outside to see that the water in tuff tray had turned to ice! After they had the best time bashing and smashing it into little pieces, we decided we would use the paints to turn them different colours. The children loved watching how the paints move and spread on the water and ice. 

By the afternoon, the ice had all melted so it was time to put on our waterproof on and/or our  welly boots and go splashing about in puddles and explore using the water. 

This is the children using paint brushes and water to create patterns and pictures.  

Brilliant Building 

These super boys spent a long time working together building their amazing building. They said they had built towers for all the goodies! We loved seeing their concentration, imagination and collaboration in full force! 

Delightful Dough  

In nursery, we love our playdough. It helps children’s hands develop the strength, dexterity, and control needed to manipulate everyday items such as scissors, pencils, zippers, and buttons. 

This week the children have begun to make the playdough themselves. Following simple instruction cards they have used flour, salt and oil to create some super dough. This is a great activity to do at home using ingredients you may already have in your cupboard. Ask the children if they can remember what you need!

Reminders

Late drop off and pick up times: If you arrive after 9am for morning drop off, you will need to go through the school office. If you are late collecting your child, they may be taken to the school office for collection. 

Wellie boots- Please ensure your child has a pair of wellie boots in school. We spend a lot of time outside, whatever the weather.

A change of clothes- Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in their bag. If you have any pants/knickers or socks at home that belong to the nursery, please can you return them as we are running low.

Congratulations 

Congratulations to Mrs Rice and her husband on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Florence. Florence was born on 1st January. What a way to start the New Year! We wish them all the best at this special time.

New staff

As Mrs Rice enjoys her new baby bubble, we have some new faces in the nursery:

Mrs Stanley is the Assistant Head teacher, head of Early Years and Key Stage One. She will be working in Nursery on Mondays.

Miss Tynan has been with the school for 10 years and has just returned from maternity leave. She has led Nursery, Reception and Year 2. She will be working in the Nursery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Miss Chappel has been with the school for 8 years and has also just returned from maternity leave. She has led Reception and Year One. She will be working in the Nursery on Thursdays and Fridays.

Indoor learning 

The children have been very creative this week using the marble run! They have worked on this most days, changing the course they have built and using differed size marbles to see if they could make them go faster! 

Messy play!! 

Outdoor learning 

The rain never stops the children from exploring and learning outside! This week the children have been working on creating obstacle courses. The children first began trying to make their way around the tree area, using the stumps but they found that they were too far apart. 

Mason then suggested they make their own. They used the crates and the stepping stones, first arranging them in a line, but then with some prompting, they made it into a circle so they cold continue to go round and round.

Reminders

Prompt pick up time - The children now have their lunch in the hall. Can we ask that if you are picking your child up after the morning session, that you collect them between 11:15-11:30am. After this time, they may be taken to he school office for collection.

Nursery - Ideas for Snow Fun

 

Nursery - Snow Fun

Good Morning Nursery,

We hope you are enjoying the snow! Here are a few outdoor/indoor activities you could try.

1. Spray the snow - If you have an empty spray bottle add some water and food coloring and you can create your own Winter masterpieces by spraying the snow!

2. Add some diggers and people to the snow, you could even dig out some roads for your town. Or you could bring some snow inside and make a little snowy scene in a tray/pan.

3. Stack the snow balls! Could could count how many you can put on top of each other or you could line them up and make a snow caterpillar.

And when you are finished playing outside you could warm up inside and listen to the story of Elmer in the Snow. Have a lovely day.

When faced with a rainy day and an abundance of leaves, what else is there to do but create some amazing Autumn art?

The children in Reception enjoyed collecting the leaves that had blown into the outdoor area over the half term break. Whilst doing so, we had lots of discussions about the changing seasons and the weather.

The children enjoyed creating some leaf rubbings using crayons on large paper. They also made some spiky hedgehogs by gluing leaves onto hedgehog templates.

Nursery 19-23 September

Nursery: Settling in
20-23rd September 2022

This week in Nursery we have been continuing to settle in and learn about the routines in the Nursery. 

The children have settled very well and we are delighted to see so many happy faces at the start of the sessions. 

Our focus this week has been on sharing and taking turns. We have been doing so well and have started using sand timers independently to help us take turns. 

We have also been learning about our pupil jobs here at Broadford;

• Turning up to school, on time every day
• Trying our very best in every lesson
• Showing politeness and kindness to everyone that we meet

Label Everything

Please make sure you clearly label everything with your child's name. This includes;

Water bottles

Welly boots

Jumpers

Cardigans

Coats

T-shirts

Shoes

Lunch boxes

Without this we are unable to reunite lost items. 

Reminders

Now that settling in has finished please may I remind you the Nursery session times are as follows;

AM: 8:30am-11:30am

PM:12:15pm-3:15pm

Full time: 8:30am-3:15pm

Please make sure you are coming to school on time, everyday. Late arrivals can be very disruptive to the start of a session and this can interrupt the learning time of others. 

Outdoor Learning 

The children have loved being outside, may we remind you to send your child in with a rain coat on those rainy days so they can still enjoy being outside. 

Please try to make sure that your child has their own welly boots in the Nursery, we do have some spares but not enough for everyone. 

Book Change Day

Please return all books and the reading record by Thursday.

Books will be sent home every Friday.

The Nursery Team

Year 2 Forest School

Year Two will have their PE and Forest School day on Friday's.

Both of these sessions will take place outside, please ensure children have appropriate footwear.

Mulberry and Rowan class will attend PE.

Pine class will attend Forest School for 5 weeks starting 16.09.22

PE Kits should remain in school and they will be sent home at the end of each half term. Children should come to school in their normal uniform and will change in school for their PE or Forest School session.

Forest School kits can remain in school, unless dirty. Children will bring any wet or dirty clothes home as needed.

Maths

This week in math, we have been consolidating our knowledge of ordering numbers to 20. We have been using the correct maths vocabulary and practicing from different points. We ordered numbers from lowest to highest and highest to lowest. We also compared numbers and noticed which amount of objects had more or less. 

Our activity was to put numbers into order from 1-20. We did an amazing job!

Literacy   

This week we started reading Lost and Found. Lost and Found is a simple tale about a boy and a penguin and their growing friendship. One day the penguin just turns up at the boys house and the boy presumes he is lost so takes him to the lost and found office. Once they reach the office he discovers no one is missing a penguin. He asks some birds if they are missing and get no response. The boy finds out the Penguin is from the South Pole and so they venture there. The boy leaves the penguin then comes to the realisation the Penguin wasn't lost he was lonely. He quickly turns back to get his friend!

Sports Afternoon

This week we participated in our Sports Afternoon. We have been practicing for this and finally got to show off our skills! We did quoits on our heads, egg and spoon races, bean bag throwing, obstacles, hurdles and javelin throws. We all showed great reciprocity when cheering our team mates on and awesome resilience in the face of challenge. We had an absolute blast!
