Nursery: Our learning journey this week- 25th September 2023

The children have had their first full week of sessions this week and we have really enjoyed meeting the chidren and families. We are impressed with how well the children have been settling into their new environment. They been enjoying creating dinner parties in the home corner, enjoying bagels and fruit for snacks, creating masterpieces  in the art area and spending time in the outside area. It has been lovely to watch the children start to develop relationships with staff and also start to make friends and join in with other children in the setting.  

Thank you to all of the parents for supporting us to ensure the children have a smooth start to their Nursery year and for being patient at home time whilst staff learn new faces and names.

Please ensure that you are on time for the start and end of sessions. The doors will close at 8.45am in the morning.

Evidence Me

Over the next month we will start sharing observations on our parent share app. Please do add your own videos and photos from home as parents can also share achievements. 

Spare Clothes 

Please leave a bag of spare clothes in Nursery, ideally this will be a labelled plastic bag as their is not much peg space. This bag should stay in school. 

Lunches

For the children who stay for lunch, we would like to inform parents Broadford primary is a Heathy Eating school. Please do not provide nut based products such as peanut butter or nutella as some of our children have nut allergies. Please do not provide fast food for your childs lunch, foods such as chips and nuggets are not permitted.

Home learning opportunities:

At Broadford Nursery, the children will receive reading books every Friday as part of our Bedtime Reading scheme. The books are due back in school every Thursday.

We would like to encourage the children to collect as many leaves as they can and bring them into nursery next week as part of our classroom Art activity. 

Lost property:

Can all parents please check their children's jumpers and return items which may not belong to them. We are missing 2 navy blue jumpers.

Important notice:

As all the children start normal session times next week, it is very important for children to have:

* Spare clothes which stay in nursery at all times (including socks)

* Wellington boots for outdoor play

* A coat suitable for all weather outdoor play 

* Please name everything your child brings into nursery

Our learning journey this week:

We would like to thank all parents and careers for your support during this settling period. The children have been amazing during the transition period and we are all very proud of them. The children have been busy building bonds with teachers and creating relationships with their classmates. We can already see some strong friendships taking place.

The children have loved exploring the nursery environment, especially the independent  access to resources.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today is polling day and whilst your children are not in nursery, here are a few learning activities which you may wish to engage with at home.

Current Theme: Minibeasts

Minibeast Hunt	Whilst the weather is dry it gives a great opportunity to go for a walk outside, whether that be in your own garden or to a local park. Here are a few ideas for activities: Understanding the World: Can you find a minibeast? What does it look like? Where does it live?  Maths: How many legs/ wings does your minibeast have? Can you use your fingers to show this? Mark making: Try drawing a picture of the minibeast you found and get your adult to help you label the different parts! Challenge: Can you write your own name on your paper? Physical: How does the minibeast move, can you try move like this? If you do go to the park it may be a great opportunity for your child to develop their gross motor skills in the play area by climbing, running and pulling themselves up on the equipment.

Nursery: Welcome back to nursery 08.03.21

On Monday 8th March, Nursery will be opening its doors to welcome back all its children and some new children too.

Over the weekend it will be a good idea to talk about nursery if you haven’t already and to speak about the teachers and their friends. It may be good to try on uniform and have a practice at getting ready for nursery.

Here is a short video to show your child before Monday to refresh their memory of what nursery looks like.

If your child is a two year old that will be having their nappy changed, you may like to show them the picture below to remind them of where they will go with Mrs Ngenge to have their nappy changed.

Nursery Timings

15 hour and 2 year old AM children	8:30-11:30am
30 hour children	09:00-3pm
15 hour and 2 year old PM children	12:00-3pm

At pick up, we will open the door between 11:20-11:30am and 2:50-3pm. If you are running late, please call the office so that we are aware, we will take your child to the main office to be met there.

New Intake

If your child is new to Broadford Nursery, you will have been contacted to learn the settling timings for their first week. As a reminder you can see the settling timings below.

Top Tips for Monday

• Speak about Nursery positively on the way to school and talk about what your child might do when they get there. 

• Describe what is happening whilst walking up to the nursery welcome doors, ie we are walking to the gate and I can see lots of happy children going into school, we are walking down the windy path to find a spot to stand on.

• Get your child out of their buggy or put them down to walk in with you before you get on the school grounds, this helps with the separation, breaking it up into smaller steps.

• Encourage your child to use the hand sanitiser and then have a quick cuddle and say goodbye.

• Make sure you go off the site; if your child can see you it will be harder for them to settle into nursery.

Rest assured, if your child does not settle and is distressed we will give you a call to collect them earlier. 

Things to remember:

• Change of clothes in a name labelled bag

• Water Bottle with their name on

• Packed Lunch (30 hour children)

We will provide fresh fruit and vegetables for your child to eat as a snack should they get hungry.

Extension: Ready for another rhyming silly soup? Join Miss Cumming with rhyming words that have the ‘ox’/ ‘ocks’ sound here.

Need more challenge?

If your child is feeling very confident with identifying rhyming words, they may wish to join in with this initial sounds activity focussing on /a/. If they are still learning rhyming words and getting to understand them keep the focus on other rhyming games rather than moving them onto initial sounds.

World Book Day Challenge 

Watch Miss Tynan's video and see if you can create your own story based on this.  Depending on your age you can ask a grown up to video your story, draw your story or write your story. Add them to your google classroom assignment or if you are in  Nursery/Reception you can upload them to Evidence Me.  We can't wait to hear the results!
