Nursery Learning 17.4.23

Nursery Learning- 21.04.23

Key found- a key has been found in Nursery. It has 2 distinct keyrings. If you have lost a key, please describe the keyrings to a member of nursery so we can return it to you.
Home Corner Request - We are looking for phones with numbers, remotes with numbers, clocks, baby items such as small baby clothes for the dolls, bottles, feeding spoons to promote pretend play. If you have any spare at home we would really appreciate any items. Thank you!

Here are the children enjoying the home corner. They loved the new baby resources!

The children have enjoyed exploring the story of 'Supertato' this week. The children have made a delicious vegetable soup, they have helped to cut the ingredients carefully and have added them together to create a delicious end product. They enjoyed dipping their bagels into this and tasting at the end.

The children have enjoyed trying to make cards this week in the writing area. We have been modelling how to carefully hold the pens and pencils to control their writing, there have been lots of opportunities to practice name writing!

Outside the children enjoyed making pretend soup in the mud kitchen. They used water in the barrel carefully and learnt to turn it on and off. There was some great team work shown as they cooked and listened to each others ideas.

The children have been mark making using chalks on the floor and benches. They loved  looking at the different pattern each other had created.

They children also chose to work on their throwing and aiming skills, just look at these throws!

As always, the children have been creative using the malleable area and the art area. Harriet enjoyed rolling out the playdough with the textured rolling pin and feeling the pattern it made. Idhaya, Sadhana and Emir all made and decorated fans independently.

The children have loved the maths area this week, using it to draw round shapes and discuss what they notice. They have been practicing witting their numbers and counting objects.

We have been working on our fine motor skills by threading using buttons and shoelaces.

The Chinese new year by Joanna Troughton

Our topic focused learning

This week the children have been learning about Chinese new year. We listened to the chinese new year story about how the years became named after animals and their fun race. The children have enjoyed sharing their knowledge about tigers and were excited to learn this year is the year of the tiger. The children who celebrate Chinese new year have been sharing their knowledge and experiences with the rest of the children, bringing in dressing up and chinese food for the children to experience.

Our child made lanterns

Sensory play using Chinese foods

Dressing up in traditional clothing

This weeks learning

The children have had lots of fun this week practicing turn taking, sharing resources, parking the cars and trikes in the numbered bays and playing in the newly arranged mud kitchen. The children are really enjoying the snack area; discussing healthy fruits, pouring their own drinks and using open top cups, as well as washing up their cups and plates when they have finished.

Parents will have an opportunity to complete a form asking questions and sharing concerns they may have for the key worker to answer during the parent meeting. This form will be sent via email. Please check your emails weekly for school communications and evidence me parents share from your children's teachers. Parents are welcome to upload pictures and videos of their children at home.

Covid-19

If your child displays coronavirus symptoms including a cough or temperature they will need to follow government test and isolation policies, including track and trace. Please inform the school office as soon as possible if you or your child displays symptoms or tests positive for covid.

Please do not send them into the nursery or on school grounds to prevent further spread of the virus until you have followed government guidance.

Thank you for your continued support with: keeping the staff and children safe, nursery open and the children in education.

Key Information

EYFS: Parent and Carer Blog; Health

When your child is ill or injured it is very difficult to decide if/when to call your child’s GP, NHS 111, or go the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E).

Here is a poster which outlines when to contact who for different health concerns.

Eating a vegan or vegetarian diet?

Whilst many of us have taken part in ‘veganuary’, eating vegan and vegetarian foods, Havering recognises that it is so important to ensure we continue to get a balanced diet. Here you will find a page about ‘Healthy eating for vegetarians and vegans’.

Where can I find support for specific conditions?

This page on the Havering Family Information Service website provides a directory of the services that support a wide range of specific health needs.

Where can I find and register with local NHS services?

At the bottom of the Havering Family Information Service page you will find an NHS service search finder. All you need to do is enter your postcode, select the service you are looking for and it will provide the search results.

Have a particular interest in Health?

If you are particularly interested in health you may consider training to become a Community Health Champion (Level 2 accredited) or to pursue a career in Health Services.

Find out more to join Havering’s team of Community Health Champions, here.

Find out about career options in the NHS Health Services here

“I completed the Health Champion training in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the Level 2 accredited course. It was a great way to have discussions about health and learn specific skills to start conversations with those we care for around health. The trainers, Sharon and Debbie, were so lovely and I still receive the latest health updates from them. I would highly recommend the course!” Mrs Ellender.

  • Short stay sessions

  • School uniform

  • Packed lunch ideas

  • Hello song

  • Reminders

  • Key Information

Quote of the week:

“Miss Ellender, Miss Ellender. I’m a lamborghini! A white one, a lambo! Listen… brrrruuuuuummmmm. Say it, say it”

Ryan says to Miss St Louis as he waits for her to say “123, GO”, making realistic lamborghini sounds running around the garden.

Reminder:

Can Parents please bring in a CUP, Wellington boots and a drawstring bag with spare clothes ASAP. Please LABEL  all your children's belongings, including both shoes. Please ensure your child knows what their cup and wellies look like.

Thank you

Short stay session

This week the children had their short stay sessions at nursery. It was an opportunity to explore their nursery environment, play with their new teachers and find out about the nursery routines including lunch. The children were very excited to see all the toys, play with the activities and engage with the free flow access to the garden.

“I made a castle” said Daisy

Wow challenge:

The children have been mastering how to take off and put on their own shoes and socks independently.

Ashlean counted her steps aloud as she walked along the chalk snake

We have been trying hard to build new relationships with our friends and teachers.

We have been developing our physical skills: catching, throwing, jumping and coordination. But most importantly sharing with friends.

The sand pit has clearly been the children's favourite activity this week.

Hello song

Everyday the children will sing the hello song during circle time. Sing helps children with their speech and language skills and confidence. The hello song helps children learn the name of their new friends, as well as their teachers.

We have written the song lyrics if parents wish to learn the song with their children at home:

Hello Song:

Hello, child’s name

Hello, child’s name

Hello, child’s name

And how are you today?

Child then answers the question, key worker may prompt with feeling cards.

Yay! It's time for our normal session times

From monday 27th September the children will start their full time sessions:

AM: 8.30am to 11.30am

PM: 12.15pm to 3.15pm

30 hours: 8.30am to 3.15pm

From monday all parents are to say goodbye before the doors open at 8.30am, ready for the children to walk into nursery independently. No parents will be allowed within the nursery. We politely ask all parents to respect our decision and not enter the nursery doors, which allows teachers to support children as they enter.

We understand many of our pupils have siblings and advise parents to drop nursery children first in the morning. The nursery doors will open at 8.30am until 8.40am. If your child arrives after 8.45am you will be required to enter through the main school office.

Session attendance Routine:

1. Please stand on a coloured spot and wait to be called forward by a teacher who will greet your child.

2. Your child should leave you at the nursery door. Please say goodbye and reassure them you will be back to collect them at the end of the session before nursery opens.  Please speak to your child about the nursery in a positive way and remind them they will stay and play with their friends and you will always come back to collect them.

3. Upon collection doors will open five minutes before the end of the session (11.25am for morning dismissal and 3.10pm for afternoon dismissal). At the end of the session, the main doors will open. Please do not crowd the nursery door as this may delay the children being released and can scare the young children.

We can not wait to start this new chapter with you.
