Reception Star Readers

There were lots of Star Readers across Reception this week.

Congratulations to Summer Carruth, Lidia Catlin, Harry Cole, Zoe Middleton, John Owers from Apple class, who all received their Bookmark Reading Award for reading 10 books.

Congratulations to Oliver Dodd, Charlie Grant and Ehan Mollah from Aspen class, who all received their Bookmark Reading Award for reading 10 books.

Congratulations to Nicholas Adeniyi, Jayden Awuah, Shivangi Zala and Luke Vigors from Alder class, who all received their Bookmark Reading Award for reading 10 books.
Well done to all our fantastic Reception Star Readers.

Creating a love of reading in children is potentially one of the most powerful ways of improving academic standards in school. Please record your home reading in your Child's Reading Record. Please record all of your home reading including your Child's school storybook, green and red words which you have been practising together, RWI books and any additional books you have shared together. All of these reading sessions go towards the School Reading Awards.

Reception Star Readers!

Congratulations to our star readers this week! Kezia has now read 50 books to receive her silver star reader award and £5 book voucher. Ellie has read 75 books and has chosen 'The Book with no Pictures" to take home. Saarah has read 100 books gaining her gold star reader award. Well done!

Reception Star Readers

Congratulations to all the star readers this week. Jessica has received her bookmark for reading 25 books. Aisling, Layla and Victoria have been busy reading at home and counting up the books they have read. The girls achieved their gold star reader trophies for reading 100 books. Layla and Saarah also received their own books for reading 75 books. 

There has been lots of reading over the Easter holidays in Alder class. Jaevon, Neo and Tomi have all received their bronze star reader award. Tavia has read 25 books so she now has her bookmark. Riley has read 50 books and has been awarded with his silver star reader certificate and £5 voucher. Hannah and Aarna have read 75 books and have received their very own book to take home! Frankie has read 100 books and received his gold star reader award and trophy!

                                                                                                                                                                       

                                  

Mia, Iniya and Layla achieved their 75 book award and received their own books this week.  Chelsea got her book mark and Izaan and Livi have read 50 books and received their book token and certificate. 

It is great to see that parents remember the home work expectation in Reception:

In Alder Class this week Rebeca received her bronze certificate for reading 10 books. Isla received her bookmark for reading 25 books and Keira received her silver certificate for reading 50 books! Well done girls, I wonder if the boys will be star readers next week?

   

                                     

In Apple class Nicole has now received her gold star reader award for reading 100 books and Augustas has joined the platinum club for reading 150 books! Wow, great work Augustas and Nicole!

Alder also had some award winners; Srinika and Riley received gold awards and Lilly received a silver award. Well done to the children and parents for all your hard work!

In Alder Class this week we have five star readers! Naiara and Cristian have achieved their bookmark for reading 25 books. Elsie-Rose has read 75 books and has chosen her own book - The Day the Crayons Quit. Louie was awarded his gold trophy for reading 100 books and Sophia received a platinum trophy for reading an amazing 150 books!

    

                              

In Apple Class, David has received his bookmark for reading 25 books. Ceejay has now reached 50 books and will shortly receive her silver star reader award and bookmark (we are waiting for them to arrive in school). Laura has also been awarded a platinum trophy for reading a massive 150 books.

Reading Star Readers

Following on from our very successful World Book Day celebration, it was great to see a number of children achieving even more reading mile stones.  In Aspen class, Adrian and Sophia were awarded their gold trophy for reading 100 books and Shajia received a platinum trophy for reading 150 books.  

                               

In Alder Class, Teddie has read 10 books and received his bronze award. Aarna has read 50 books and has achieved her silver award which includes a £5 voucher! Ife has read 75 books and has chosen her own book - The Day the Crayons Quit. Hmm I wonder where she got that idea from!

                                

In Apple class both Nicole and Aisling received their book of their choice for reading 75 books at home. Nicole cannot wait to get started on her Finding Dory book and Aisling is looking forward to sharing the BFG at bedtime with her family.

Congratulations to all our star readers this week. Please keep reading with your children daily and keep practising those tricky red words; if you need another copy let your teacher know.

Congratulations to this weeks star readers!

Amelia Davis received her bronze award. Carla and Mimi  received their bookmark for reading 25 books. Silver star reader awards and a £5 gift voucher were awarded Ruby W, Archie, Ellie and Hannah W for reading 50 books. Adrian L and Sophia H have read a fantastic 75 books and received a book of their choice.

Reading an incredible 100 books to collect their gold star reader awards were Augustas and Amy C.

It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers at our second Read, Write Inc. stay and play on Friday. Perhaps we need some bigger classrooms! We hope you found it useful, if you have any further questions about how to support your child at home with reading please come and see your class teacher.

These children have been very busy reading at home. Well done to Shajia, Madalina, Augustas and Amy who have reached 75 books, their books arrived today! 

It is great to see so much reading taking place at home, it really does make an impact on your childs ability in all areas of learning.  Furthermore so many of the children are demonstrating that they can read and write those tricky red words now.  Keep up your amazing hard work at home parents!

Red words

A reminder:

Your child needs to be able to recognise these red words on sight so that they become a confident and fluent reader. Some words are only ‘red’ words until your child has learnt that sound. Please practice reading these words by sight with your child when you read at home.  Here is a little saying to help you remember: 'You can't Fred a red!'. Once your child has mastered these red words, we will send home another set. 

Platinum Star Reader!

A massive congratulations to Ethan Carruth who has received his Platinum Star Reader award for reading 150 books! Wow! Ethan and his family have put in a lot of time reading every night, both his school reading books and sharing other bedtime stories. This has really been reflected in Ethan's reading and story telling.

                                      

When Ethan had read 75 books he chose The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher and has really enjoyed listening to this story with his family. "I loved reading the Christmasaurus, the best bit is he can fly".

Well done Ethan - keep it up!

Star Readers and Red Words!

Congratulations to all our star readers in Reception!

These children have been very busy reading at home. Indianna received her bronze star reader award. Riley L, Courtney, Amelie, Harvy, Lilly, Aaliyah and Tiren have received their bookmark for reading 25 books. 

Well done to Elise-Rose, Mia and Iniya who has received their silver star reader award. There are also a few children waiting to receive their chosen books for reading 75 books.

Your child should have brought home a sheet of red words recently (please let your class teacher know if they did not). In the RWI phonics scheme red words are used to help children recognise the fact some words are more difficult to read, because they cannot ‘Fred talk’ them in the normal way. Your child needs to be able to recognise these red words on sight so that they become a confident and fluent reader. Some words are only ‘red’ words until your child has learnt that sound. Please practice reading these words by sight with your child when you read at home.  Here is a little saying to help you remember: 'You can't Fred a red!'. Once your child has mastered these red words, we will send home another set. 

Here are a few ideas to help you!

• You could take turns to read the red words - my turn, your turn. 
• You could practice reading these words in and out of order.
• You could talk about the sounds in the word that make it tricky. Eg. in the word 'was', the 'a' sound is the tricky bit because it makes the sound 'o'. 
• You could cover them up and remove the item to reveal the word. 
• You could turn the red words into a game: chop up the words and place them all face down on the table, take turns to pick a word. Can you read the word to collect the card, if not it goes back down on to the table. The person with the most red words at the end is the winner.

Star Readers!

Congratulations to all of our star readers this week! You have all been busy working hard on your reading at home.

In Apple class Ruby-Rose, Victoria and Aisling have all read 50 books gaining them their silver star reader and a £5 book voucher.

In Alder class Harry has now read 10 books recieving his bronze star reader certificate. Ife has now read 50 books reaching her silver star reader certificate and a £5 book voucher. Adrian has been extremely busy as he has now read 75 books! He now gets to choose a book of his choice - I wonder what book he has chosen?

In Aspen Hamza and Charlie have been busy reading at home, Charlie received his bookmark and Hamza his silver star reader award.

We have started the new year off fantastically with lots more star readers in Reception!

Richie has received his Bronze Star Reader award. Well done to Hannah, Ceejay, Khizer, Aaliyah and Izaan who received their bookmark.

Reading 50 books to receive their Silver Star Reader award are Frankie, Layla, Nicole, Sophia, Layla-Rose and Shrinika.  (Adrian received his before Christmas but wasn't in to have his photo taken).

Shajia reached 75 books and will soon be receiving a book of her choice.

Also Laura and Shajia have now reached the 100 book mark, wow that is a lot of reading girls. Well done!

Reception have been busy reading at home once again! This week reading awards have been awarded to the following children.

Gaining their bronze star reader was Abdulmalik, Emily and Naiara. Reading 25 books and receiving their bookmarks were Thabang, Miley, Aarna and Dhriti. 

Augustas, Sarah and Louie have now read 50 books, which gains them their silver star reader and a £5 gift voucher. 

Ethan and Sophia are now at a massive 100 books, wow! They are our first children to receive a gold star reader this year, congratulations!

Congratulations to all the star readers in Reception this week! It is fantastic to see everyone continuing to read at home, even as we start to tire as our first term comes to an end.

Olivia and Ella have now read 10 books and receive there bronze star reader award. Being awarded their bookmarks for reading 25 book this week are Livi, Ruby Welch, Victoria and Ella.

Riley, Adrian and Madalina have now read 50 books! This earns them all a silver star reader award and a £5 book voucher. I wonder what books they will buy?

Laura and Ethan have received the books they chose. Ethan is very excited to listen to The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher at bedtime and Laura cannot wait to get started on The Twits by Roald Dhal. 

We are expecting lots of reading awards next week as we round off the term. Keep up the reading Reception!

Aspen class had four amazing star readers too. Srinika, Danny, Charlie and Miley all recieved their bronze certificates.
