Nursery Learning 24.02.24

Nursery Learning 24.02.24

This week we have been reading 'The Tiger who came to tea'. The children enjoyed reading all about the greedy tiger and have been using their tiger masks to re-enact gobbling all the food in Nursery!

In the Art area the children have been inspired by tiger pictures to create their own drawings and pictures. Some children chose to practice their mark making skills and some chose to practice cutting and create some great stripy tigers.

As it was pancake day this week we have made our own delicious pancakes. The children had to carefully mash a banana with a fork, they then added oats and stirred in an egg. There were lots of opportunities for turn taking and counting in order to 10 in this activity. The children enjoyed watching as the pancakes cooked and were very eager to gobble them up like the hungry tiger at the end.

As it was a rainy day we added some power paint to the puddles outside. The children used small brooms to sweep and spread the paint. They had to use their shoulder and elbow joints to control the brooms and create their own marks outside.

In our small group sessions we have been focusing on phonological awareness, these are skills that are required to help the children to achieve later reading success. This week we have been busy listening for the sounds the animals start with and clapping the correct amount of syllables for each animal name.

Look at our 2 year olds working together in the building area. After working with their key worker, Mrs Ngenge, they then independently chose to recreate the building and make it even taller! They were very proud of what they had made!

There's never a quiet day in the nursery garden! As well as exploring the nature and water, it's a great environment to support the children's physical development. Today was bike races. The children were trying out the different bikes to see if they could decide on which was the fastest. They had lots of fun doing this and they all decided that the blue balance bike was the fastest!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Nursery Learning- 10.02.23

 Nursery learning

Guess how much I love you?

Our focus story last week was 'Guess how much I love you?', a story about a little bunny that loves his mummy very much. The children have enjoyed taking part in some activities linked to the story and their interests this week.

The children enjoyed collecting and counting the hearts in the colored rice. They sorted and scooped and used paint brushes and wooden sticks to make marks in the tray.

We added some limes and lemons to our water area this week with juicers. The children enjoyed twisting and squeezing the fruit and were thrilled as they watched the juice empty into the water tray. They have also been really interested in trying to build ramps for cars, we encouraged this by adding planks of wood to the building area and the children have been enjoying racing their cars down these and predicting which ones will be the fastest! The playdough area was very popular this week, the children helped to make some red, sparkly dough and used pipe cleaners to carefully make holes in their dough. There were lots of opportunities for counting in order during this activity!

In our art corner this week we have been busy printing using our fingers or vegetables. The children have been inspired to make some lovely cards and pictures for their friends and family.

Brilliant Builders

We have very creative children in our Nursery and this week they have been showing off their building skills! They worked together to create a 'tiny town' for the figurine and a tower that was taller than them. The helped each other when the tower began to wobble and also when they wasn't tall enough to reach the top. Super collaboration all round!

High in the sky

We love seeing the children risk assessing and taking risks, carefully. It's how they find their boundaries and get to know what their limits are. These children were having a great time jumping from the outdoor equipment. They started off low, concentrating on how they land with squashy knees and they built their confidence to jump off of the higher platform.

Super snacks

This week the children are continuing with their super snacks and this week we were making pizza bagels! They spread the sauce, helped great the chees and then we toasted them. They went down a storm! .

Wet, Wet, Wet!

We love the water in the summer but even on the colder days, we still use it to explore. Here the children were hosting a giant's tea party. They used smaller containers to fill up the larger teapot, meaning they had more control over the water.
