EYFS: Breastfeeding Week Information

Last week was Breastfeeding Celebration Week.

This year's theme is encouraging families and friends to encourage breast feeding by new mums.

Breastfeeding provides all the nutrition a baby needs for the first six months and also helps build a strong emotional bond between a mum and her baby.

Breast milk also helps boost a baby’s ability to fight illness and infection by passing on the mother’s immune defences. Babies who are not breastfed are more likely to get diarrhoea and respiratory infections.

Midwives and health visitors play an important part in supporting breastfeeding and mums and mum-to-be are encouraged to reach out to them if they need support.

Try the Breastfeeding Friend from Start4Life available on Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Assistant, or on Facebook Messenger.

You can also visit the Start4Life website for helpful information and, if you wish, sign up to receive weekly emails and videos with advice about pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

For confidential breastfeeding information and support, call the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 0300 100 0212. Lines are open 9:30am to 9:30pm every day.

Wellbeing Wednesday

Reception, on Wellbeing Wednesday you can take a break from your computers and devices and take part in lots of fun, different activities outside or around your home.

This afternoon, complete these mindfulness activities: complete the game What’s Your Name?

Spell out your full name and complete the activity for each letter.

For an even greater challenge include your middle name and do each activity twice!

If you want to continue the game you could spell out the name of your favourite character or a family member.

name fit

You could also go for a walk in your local area. What did you notice on your walk? Did you see any animals or notice any changes to any of the trees or wildlife?

You may want to help your family with any chores around the house. You could tidy your room or help with folding clothes away or washing up.

Why not help your family to prepare and make a healthy dinner or bake something delicious in the afternoon!

We hope you enjoy taking part in Wellbeing Wednesday.

Please let us know what you got up to and share your learning with us!

Please email us at eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk to contact a member of the Reception Team. Please submit work using a Parent Postcard on Evidence Me. Keep checking the Broadford More Blogs page EYFS Blog Page and Facebook page for updates.
