Princess and Pirate Fun!
Shiver me timbers and blow me down!! What a fantastic effort by staff, children and parents for making the Nursery Pirate and Princess day such a success. Great fun was had by all.

Learning Power Heroes.
As part of our Superheroes topics, the children in Reception have been busy focussing on our 4Rs; Resilience, Reciprocity, Resourcefulness and Reflectiveness. They designed their own superheroes and then wrote about their learning powers.
I have made my teacher happy
Well done to all the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who have made their teachers happy this week!
Bubble snakes
Look at our new bubble snakes that we have made using washing up liquid, plastic bottles and socks.

Super Swimmer Charlie
What a great start to a Monday morning! Charlie came in with a beaming smile and full of pride as he showed us his first swimming certificate. The first one is always the hardest! Well done Charlie for showing such great determination. We are so proud of you! Thank you for sharing your Wow moment with us.

Nursery Weekly Newsletter
Term: Spring 1 Date 3.2.14
As it is still Chinese New Year this week we will be tasting rice, noodles and prawn crackers. We will be trying to use chop sticks.
This week we will be singing Jack and Jill went up the hill, Hickory Dickory Dock and some pirate songs. Our story of the week will be “The Night Pirates”.
Personal, Social and Emotional
Beginning to accept the needs of others and can take turns and share resources sometimes with support from others.
Shows understanding and cooperates with some boundaries and routines.
Washing and drying hands.
Communication and Language
Joining in with the Nursery Rhymes.
Being able to follow directions.
Can retell a simple past even in the correct order.
Physical Development:
Develop fine motor control when writing their name.
Uses one handed tools and equipment e.g. scissors.
Understands that equipment and tools need to be used safely.
Mathematics
Notices simple patterns and shapes in pictures.
Uses some number names accurately in play.
Beginning to categorise objects according to properties such as shape or size.
Understanding of the World
Learns that they have similarities and differences that connect them to, and distinguish them from, others.
Notices detailed features in the environment.
Seeks to acquire basic skills in turning on and off operating some ICT equipment.
Expressive Arts and Design
Explores colour and how colour can be changed.
Sings a few familiar songs.
Using available resources to create props for role play, creating a boat to float in the water.
Literacy
Beginning to be aware of the way stories are structured.
Looks at books independently, handling them carefully.
Practise copying name, holding pencil using a three finger grip.
Messages:
Just a reminder that our morning session starts at 8.30 until 11.30. We have had to rearrange our time table and our letters and sounds session will start promptly at 8.50. We do not want any of the children to miss this important part of the day.
Don’t forget Pirate and Princess dressing up day on Wednesday where children can come to Nursery dressed as a pirate or princess. We look forward to seeing all your lovely costumes.

This week we will be focussing our learning around ‘Princesses and Dragons’ linking in with Chinese New Year. As part of national Storytelling week, we will be reading a range of the children’s favourite stories. Please feel free to send in a book for us all to share.
Your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (although the skills remain the same, the activities may differ depending on the children’s interests):
Personal, Social and Emotional development:
During Circle time we will be discussing our favourite stories and why we like them.
Communication and Language
All the children have a set reading day. Please make sure their book is in school at least for their reading day. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place. Many children have already received their bronze award.
On Monday, as part of National Storytelling Week, we have the Multi-Story theatre company in. The children will get to watch a great performance and complete follow up activities.
Sharing our favourite books.
Physical
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark. All children will need a PE kit in school.
Literacy
Writing our names encouraging correct pencil grip.
We will be continuing our daily Read, Write Inc. sessions.
Writing invitations to our Chinese banquet to encourage children to write for a purpose.
Maths
Forming numbers accurately from 0 to 20.
Playing number bingo.
Solving addition and subtraction calculations
Understanding of the World
Tasting different Chinese foods and discussing what they like or dislike?
Learning about different traditions.
Expressive Arts and Design
Chinese New Year activities.
Enjoying our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.
Taking part in a music scheme – Music express – linking music with stories.
