Important reminders  

• Reception school applications: Please be aware reception application deadline is January 15th 2024. Outcomes will be released April 2024. Please use this link to apply for your childs primary school place for september 2024 https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/

• All children should be wearing a winter Uniform which includes a warm coat to school. The children will continue to play outdoors during the winter months. Parents may provide wellies for oudoors if they wish. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child's name.

• If parents/carers have any dolly baby buggies, garages with ramps or small cars that are no longer used at home we would really appreciate donations of these items. 

• Father christmas booking deadline is: Friday 17th November. Please ask for a letter if you require information.

Focus play this week:

This week we have continued to focus on Owls. We have followed on from our 105 nursery book: Owl babies with wow! said the owl. We have been reinforcing our learning of owls by using different mediums to mark owls in the art area, using owl pictures for reference and creating homes for the owls using blocks and building materials.

Book of the week:

This week the children have been listening to the book WOW! said the Owl. The children have enjoyed repeating the words in the story and exploring colours within the activities. Within our key groups the children have been discussing colours and where we see the colours in and outside of nursery. The children have enjoyed using the owl teddies during their play and at story time.

Rhymes of the week:

This week during group time, the children have been revisting our previous nursery rhymes: Head, shoulders, knees and toes; little peter rabbit; wheels on the bus; i'm a litle teapot; row row row your boat and itsy bitsy spider.

Stay & Play:

We would like to thank all the paents and carrers who attended our Communication, Language and literacy Stay and Play this week. The children loved introducing friends to their parents, as well as the oys they love and books they've read. We hope you enjoyed listening to our book of the week and were able to continue talking out the book at home with your child. 

Our learning fun this week:

Making Poppy wreaths:

This week the children have been getting messy making hand prints, using paint to create our special poppy wreaths for our school display. Please look out for our nursery wreath on your way to school.

Outdoor fun:

The children had fun making big art in the garden. They learned how to change powder paint into liquid paints by adding water. The children used brooms as giant paintbrushes to mix the paint coulours and create large marks, including circles, names and faces. We then finished our fun by jumping in paint puddles with our wellington boots.

Maths fun:

This week the children have been attempting to subitise and count in order starting from zero. We have been counting conkers and comparing contents of trays to identify if the quantity is the same, higher or lower than the other tray.

E for Excellence

Each week, a child in each class is awarded the E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

For your hard work learning to count in maths this week. You have been very persistent and trying super hard. Keep up the great work!

MDA Awards

Each week, the mid-day assistants will award a child in each class with a MDA award for demonstrating consistently good behaviour at lunchtime.

Dojo Winner Of The Week

During the week, the children in reception can earn dojo points for good behaviour. They can earn these for good listening on the carpet, being kind and polite, sharing and tidying resources or helping a friend. Each week, the child with the most dojo points will be awarded with a certificate and have their photo displayed in the classroom.

105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford Primary 

The children will be awarded with a Bronze, Silver or Gold award when they have read 15 of the 105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford. Please refer to the booklet in your child's reading folder for the list of books. 

Bronze- Read 5 books 

 Silver- Read 10 books 

Gold- Read all 15 books 

Please read with your child at home in order for them to have an opportunity to achieve a reading certificate. 

Nursery certificates- 3.11.23

 

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work. 

A massive congratulations to Bonnie-Blu, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her excellent knowledge of owls. When our special visitor brought in owls, she was able to answer lots of questions and share her own thoughts. 

A huge well done to Arthur, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his brilliant listening in group time. He joins in with the stories we read and answers questions. We love seeing his confidence grow.

• Nursery stay and play; Wednesday 8th November am- 8.45-9.45, PM- 2-3pm

Focus play this week:

This weeks focus has been all about Owls. The children have been learning where owls live, how they communicate with each other and their features. We have been marking owl pictures, using scissors to create owl collages and using paint to create our own owl art work. To end a fantastic week, the children met two owls named Mystic and Edgar. They flew around our hall, shared information on how they live and even let us take photographs of this special memory. 

Book of the week:

This week the children have been listening to the book Owl babies. The children have enjoyed learning the story and joining in with repeated refrains. Within our key groups the children are identifying emotions and discussing their understanding and shared experiences of family leaving and coming back. The children have enjoyed using the owl teddies during their play and at story time.

Our learning fun this week:

Christmas in November:

This week the school has celebrated Christmas in November. The children have been busy making Christmas cards and enjoyed our Christmas dress up day on Friday.

Autumn fun:

This week the children have been making and tasting pumpkin soup. We followed Mrs Light yummy reciepe, it was a big hit with the children. Most of the children loved the pumpkin soup with bread, whilst others were happy to have a taste of the soup they made.

Mrs Light's Pumpkin soup reciepe:

Ingredients:

Pumpkin, carrots, onion, sweet potatoe, vegetable stock, pepper, garlic, cream (optional).

Instructions: 

1. chop all the veg, drizzle with oil and soften in the oven

2. In a large saucepan add approx 1.5-2 pints of water with stock.

3. Place cooked veg from the oven into the saucepan, stir then using a hand blender or any electrical belnder to make the soup smooth.

4. Enjoy!

Rainy day fun:

The children play in the garden in all weather. Wear appropriate clothing we have fun splashing, pouring, filling and stamping in he water.  We love learning no matter the weather.

Wow moments:

We have special relationships with our peers and love to help each other during our play. As a team the children helped each other to build colourful robots. They were so proud of their creations they asked for a picture. 

Maths fun:

The children enjoyed counting dinosaurs. They extended their learning by using the numeral cards and working together to organise them in the correct numerical order. They counted to check the cards were correct as they went along. Wow! we are good at counting number bonds to ten.

Nursery Stay and Play Wednesday 8th November

 

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Stay and Play session. The session will be based around reading and will be on Wednesday 8th 2023. We will have a morning session at 8.45-9.45am and an afternoon session at 2-3pm.

Reception Stay & Learn - Thursday 9th November

 Reception Stay & Learn 

Dear Parents and Carers,

There will be a Reception stay and learn session on Thursday 9th November at 2:15.

The session will focus on how Reading is taught in Reception. Please come to main doors that you use in the morning and you will be admitted to the classrooms for a 2:15 start. We hope to see you there!

Reception's Marvellous Me Day

 Reception's Marvellous Me Day

We had a brilliant end to our first half term in Reception celebrating Marvellous Me Day! We started our morning by practising our speaking and listening skills, sharing what we chose to wear on the day and why.

We also made some portraits of our partners, thinking about their features. We had so much fun and lots of laughs making them as we used clear frames and whiteboard pens. Adeyemi got Miss Davis' face just right!

Thanks to all the lovely family photos we received from parents and carers, we were then able to discuss our families.

We then got our favourite toys out and talked about why we had chosen them as our favourites. The children showed great speaking and listening skills in waiting their turn to speak, explaining clearly and listening to others.

Thank you to all the parents and carers that made the day possible by providing photos and bringing in children's favourite toys - A fantastic finish to the half term celebrating all of our wonderful children!
