Nursery Campfire Fun

As the weather was a little brighter last week we decided to gather the Nursery children for a campfire. The children sat on seats around the purpose build fit pit as the fire was lit and then they were able to toast their own marshmallows.  They were all very sensible and were able to explain how we keep ourselves safe around fire. The children were encouraged to feel their marshmallows before and after toasting and noticed how they were very sticky and had changed colour after placing them on the fire. After toasting our gooey treats we sand a variety of camp songs before the children were encouraged to sit still and listen to the crackling fire. A great experience was had by all and we are looking forward to more campfire cooking soon!

Science Week Wormery

Wow, its been Science week across the school and although we are often developing the children's Knowledge and Understanding of the World, this week we have had a particular focus on  it.

The children were immersed when they created the Wormery's.  They talked about the needs of the worms demonstrating an understanding of growth and changes over time.  They talked about the need for soil and how the worms like the dark, Olivia demonstrated an inquisitive mind when she posed the question " Why do they like the dark?" Danny replied with "They live in the ground where its dark".  Archie made an observation "In my class a worm ate a leaf".  A few days later when observing the wormery the children were able to identify worms and tunnels.  Tiffany excitedly exclaimed "Look there's a tunnel".

Dear Parents,

We look forward to an exciting week this week. We will continue look at Superheroes and we will be reading and exploring the text ‘Supertato’.  We had great fun starting our Wormery’s last week and we will continue to explore and maintain them this week during Science Week.  We will also be making some vegetable superheroes.

Our Learning Objectives for this term are:-

Learning Challenge

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.

A Visit from a Furry Friend

In Nursery this week we have been reading the story 'Little Rabbit Foo Foo'. The children had the opportunity to meet a real rabbit today and find out about what they are really like.

They learnt about what the rabbit eats and how it needs to be looked after, watched as it hopped around the classroom and even had time to read the rabbit a story after.

The children enjoyed meeting Simba the lionhead rabbit and he certainly enjoyed the strokes and extra rocket leaves he was allowed to munch today!

Nursery Newsletter 12.3.17

Term: Spring 2                     Date: 12.3.2017

Dear Parents,

      As the weather is set to be dry we are going to have a bonfire around the built in fire pit this week. The children will be singing songs and toasting marshmallows. The children will also have the chance to stroke and meet a real rabbit on Wednesday as our story of the week is 'Little Rabbit Foo Foo'.

Personal, Social and Emotional:

We are encouraging the children to talk to other children when playing and create their own games. We are encouraging the children to identify the feelings of characters in stories and talk about feelings.
                       

Communication and Language/Literacy:

We are encouraging the children to learn Nursery Rhymes and join in with actions to help them re-tell these. We are focusing on learning the rhymes ''Little Bo Peep'' and "Little Rabbit Foo Foo" this week. They are encouraged to listen carefully to adults telling the rhymes and say the missing words. We are pointing our rhyming words in rhymes and stories and encouraging the children to hear how words rhyme. Some children are now continuing a rhyming string.. e.g. what could we put with frog and dog.... 'a log'.

The children are always encouraged to use the correct tenses and word endings when talking e.g. "I slid down the slide." "I found a pretty bead." "Soon it will be my Birthday." Please continue to model this at home. Encourage the children to talk to you in full sentences and share their ideas.

Physical Development:
The children are developing their throwing skills with large foam vortex.

We are focusing on ensuring children are able to hold scissors correctly and are enjoying daily

'Dough Disco' sessions to develop the muscles in the children's fingers.

    

Mathematics:

This week we are focusing on the children's number recognition and the ability to count objects accurately. The children will be working on their individual targets in their play.

Expressive Art and Design
The children have a range of soft and fluffy materials so they can create their own rabbit pictures.

Painting: 
Talk to your children about the farm and animals you may find on a farm. It is important they can group animals such as jungle, under the sea, farm, insects. You could help your child create a painting of their favourite animal and find out some fun facts.

Nursery Rhyme	Author
1.      Learn it off by heart. 2.      Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme.	We have read some of Julia Donaldson's books to the children now. You could read the stories such as 'Monkey Puzzle', 'What the Lady Bird Heard' or 'Squash and a Squeeze'.  The children could draw/paint a picture of their favourite character or part of the story. Apple's Learning Challenges

Nicole, Ethan and Augustas have been busy completing this term's learning challenge. Augustas listened to the March by Johann-Strass Radetzky at home and choreographed his own dance to this piece of music. He also found out some facts and pressed some flowers to represent the music.

"First you have to close your eyes and listen to the music. Then you can make up the dance" explained Augustas to Apple Class.

Ethan and Nicole both chose to look at a Superhero. Ethan researched Superman and drew a fabulous picture of him. Ethan researched some facts and used his phonics skills to write some great sentences about Superman. "Superman is Clark Kent" Ethan told Apple class. Nicole also produced a fantastic comic about the Miraculous Ladybug with some great writing.

Reception Star Readers!

In Alder Class this week we have five star readers! Naiara and Cristian have achieved their bookmark for reading 25 books. Elsie-Rose has read 75 books and has chosen her own book - The Day the Crayons Quit. Louie was awarded his gold trophy for reading 100 books and Sophia received a platinum trophy for reading an amazing 150 books!

    

                              

In Apple Class, David has received his bookmark for reading 25 books. Ceejay has now reached 50 books and will shortly receive her silver star reader award and bookmark (we are waiting for them to arrive in school). Laura has also been awarded a platinum trophy for reading a massive 150 books.
