Reception Newsletter 19.11.18

Term: Autumn 2            Date: 19.11.18

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for all your support and contributions towards Children in Need on Friday. There was a lot of money raised for a great cause and much fun was had by all. The children loved baking biscuits and dressing up the teacher was a hit!

We have a few jumpers and cardigans that can not be located as well as Max’s trousers. Please could you check your child’s school clothing in case they have taken anything home by mistake.

This week the children will be baking biscuits again, but this time they will need to buy their own ingredients. Each class will be visiting Lidl at some point this week to buy the ingredients they need, before returning to school to make the biscuits. The recipe has been turned into a simple spoon recipe and the children are able to follow this with just a little support.

This week we will be reading Elmer. We will be baking elephant biscuits, discussing what we are good and finishing the week with an elephant parade.

Communication and Language
The children will sequencing pictures from the story and retelling it in their own words. As well as discussing what they are good at.

Physical Development
The children will need their fine motor skills as we bake biscuits. Carefully measuring the ingredients, stirring, kneading and rolling. Baking and following the recipe will also allow the children to apply their maths skills.

Maths
This week we are looking at money and using everyday language related to money. We will be looking at different coins, setting up a shop in our role play areas and of course visting Lidl to buy our ingredients.

Literacy
They will also be writing simple instructions to make biscuits.
