Reception Home Learning Week 8

Good morning Reception!

Welcome back to the second half of the summer term, this year really has flown by! We hope you have had a lovely half term, have managed to rest and recharge a little as well as enjoy the beautiful weather. Mr McLucas will be in touch this week with more information regarding school's reopening.

Thank you for all of your video’s you sent in, it was lovely to see all the children’s faces and dance moves. They are all looking very happy and healthy. We hope you enjoyed watching the video, if you haven’t seen it yet, take a look!

Here’s what we’ve got planned this week…..

Oak National Academy

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/reception#subjects

The Oak National Academy have lots of online lessons for different ages across different areas of the curriculum. You can choose a particular area you would like your child to work on for example finding one less than numbers up to twenty. The videos are quite short and there is an online teacher, which might allow you to get a cup of tea and a brief break. If you try them out, please let us know how you get on!

Writing

Research and write about your favourite sea creature. You could use google to look at images and find out facts. Remember to plan your sentences out loud before you write each one. You may want to draw a picture of the sea creature as well.

Don’t forget your finger spaces between words and remember to use the sound mat to help with letter formation.

Maths

This week, have a go at doubling numbers, what does double mean? Link doubling to addition and show your child that ‘double 2’ is the same as ‘2+2’. Remember to keep it practical, get creative as you like, here are a few ideas to get you started.

Doubling also works well using ladybirds or butterflies. Here is a simple sheet that you mind find useful.

There is a doubling rap on YouTube, which is always popular when we teach doubling at school. You can listen below and join in!

White Rose Maths
This week’s Maths is based around the book The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. You can listen to the story here.

Take a look at the activities, choose the ones you would like to do and let us know how you get on. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/. You might also like to take a break, snuggle up and watch the animated version on BBC iPlayer.

Other Activities

  • Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. Take at look at some of his paintings and have a go at creating your own.

  • Have a go at making your own bubble wand. Sticks and pipe cleaners work well, but I am sure there are lots of other materials you could use. Washing up liquid and water is a great alternative to bubble mixture.

  • Draw a family portrait. Think about what media you will use. Can you describe what each family member looks like? Look closely for similarities and differences, you might look at eye and hair colour or particular features.
  • Help make breakfast, lunch or dinner. Send us a picture of what you prepared!

Spellings

This week our spellings are a mix of green words and a revisited red word. Remember to think about whether there is a ‘special friend’ in the word or a tricky part. Keep practising the other words you might have found tricky so you can use these in your writing.

Practice writing these spelling everyday, ready for the test on Fridays. One of your teachers will read out these spellings in a video for you to have a go at home. You can find the test on the Facebook page or through the blog on the school website. Good luck!
