Reception Home Learning Week 12

Happy Monday Reception!

The weather may be cooler this week but we hope you are all excited for another week of fun learning! There are lots of activities for you to do, whether you are at school or at home. Remember to keep sending your teachers what you are doing at home, we love to hear from you! We hope you are all staying healthy and happy.

If you would like your child to return to school before the summer you need to either fill out the below form, call the office or drop the Reception Team an email by Wednesday 1st July. The last intake of pupils will be the week beginning the 6th July. Mr McLucas letter below explains in a little more detail.

Here’s what we’ve got planned this week…..

Writing

This week you can read or listen to the story ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson and design your own dragon! Zog is the keenest dragon in school. Think about what your dragon might look like, sound like, what do they like to do, what do they like to eat? Draw your dragon and then describe what they look like and what they like to do!

Don’t forget your finger spaces between words and remember to use the sound mat to help with letter formation.

Maths

This weeks maths focus is sharing. It is important when teaching sharing that the children understand the groups have to be equal. An example of a sharing problem would be “Nathan has 10 sweets. He shares them equally between his 5 friends. How many sweets does each friend get?” You could teach this using grapes, toys, lego or sweets.

Make sure you emphasise that when you’re sharing, that they go around and give each person one first and then if there is left over try and give more. If we have shared fairly everyone should have the same number of items.

White Rose Maths

This week’s Maths is based around the book Oliver’s Vegetables. You can listen to the story here.

Take a look at the activities, choose the ones you would like to do and let us know how you get on. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

Other Activities

  • Try some blind folded food taste testing! Can you guess what the food is? What does it taste like? What does it smell like? Does it make a noise?

  • Conduct an experiment using ice? How quickly can you make it melt? What happens when ice melts? You could try freezing some of your child’s toys or natural treasures from outdoors and have the children investigate different ways of melting them.

  • Try a new vegetable or food you’ve not tried before!

  • Order your daily routine. What do you do first, next, last. This could include activities like brushing your teeth, eating lunch, going to bed, story time, outside time etc.

Spellings

This week our spellings are a mixture of green and red words, remember to think about whether there is a ‘special friend’ or tricky part in the word. Keep practising the other words you might have found tricky so you can use these in your writing.

Practice writing these spelling everyday, ready for the test on Fridays. One of your teachers will read out these spellings in a video for you to have a go at home. You can find the test on the Facebook page or through the blog on the school website. Good luck!

Keep on Reading!
We know it is tricky to read everyday, and you may be growing a little tired of your books at home. However it is important to try and keep reading regularly. Oxford Owls has lots of online books of varying levels to read. You should also continue to share stories together, if you’re running out of books Youtube is full of storybooks and CBeebies also has a lot of stories and an app you can download for free. You might also like to get involved with the summer reading challenge mentioned above!
