We had a lovely week last week, with the ‘Stay and Play sessions’ proving to be a great success. We were also privileged to a have a visit from the Mayor who officially opened the EYFS building and garden.
We will be starting a new topic this week, ‘Oh what a character’. This week our focus is ‘Fireman Sam’. We will be reading various stories about him and looking into how real Fire stations work.
The morning children will be getting a visit from the Fire Brigade on Thursday at 10.30am, the afternoon children will be seeing them in a few weeks’ time, details to follow.
Personal, Social and Emotional
- Confident to talk to other children when playing and will communicate freely about home and community.
- Keeps play going responding to what others are saying and doing.
- Can usually tolerate a delay when needs are not immediately met, and understands wishes may not always be met.
Communication and Language
- Uses talk in pretending that objects stands for something else in play e.g. this box is my castle
- Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
- Shows understanding of prepositions such as under, on top, behind by carrying out an action or selecting a correct picture.
Physical Development:
- Can tell adults when they are tired or hungry, when they want to rest or play
- Hold pencils with thumb and two fingers no longer using whole hand grasp
- Understands that equipment and tools have to be used safely.
Mathematics
- Compares two groups of objects, saying when they have the same number
- Consolidating place value.
- Shows interest in a number problem
Understanding of the World
- Shows interests in different occupations and ways of life
- Shows care and concern for living things and the environment.
- Shows an interest in technological toys with knobs or pulleys, or real objects such as sound movements or new image
Expressive Arts and Design
- Uses various construction materials.
- Uses available resources to create props to support role play.
Literacy
- Taking part in letters and sounds.
- Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events.
- Uses talk in pretending that objects stand for something else in play.

Please take the time to have a look in our lost property box. We have a large number of unnamed items.
Also please make sure you put sun cream on your children before they come to Nursery, if it is very hot they will also need a hat with their name in.
