Reception Weekly Newsletter
Term: Summer 2 Date 17.07.14
As we approach the end of term, we would like to thank you for your continuous support throughout the year. We have had a fun packed year and have thoroughly enjoyed coming to school every day to educate your children. Over the next few weeks we will be focussing on our transition unit, ‘The Little Brown Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Big Brown Bear’. Your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (activities are subject to change, depending on the children’s interests; however, the skills remain the same):
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
In circle time, we will be talking about moving on and what to expect in Year One. The children are now frequently visiting the Year One classes.
The children will be joining the Year One children for a strawberry tea to chat about all the wonderful things in Year One.
Communication and Language
We will be reading the story, ‘The Little Brown Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Big Brown Bear’ and encouraging the children to ask ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
Physical
Looking at handling tools and malleable materials safely and with increasing control.
Taking part in PE sessions with Mr Clark – practising for Sports’ Day.
Literacy
The children need to be bringing in their reading books daily. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place.
The children will be writing invitations for the strawberry tea.
We will be continuing our daily Read Write Inc. sessions
Maths
The children will be solving problems, including adding and subtracting two single-digit numbers.
Ensuring correct formation of numbers to 20
Understanding of the World
Workshops with Essex Wildlife Trust on Tuesday
Expressive Arts and Design
Enjoying our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.
Creating collages for display in the Year One classrooms
Messages:
Please ensure children come to school with a sun hat and sun cream already applied. Due to allergies we will not apply sun cream throughout the day. If you feel your child needs a second application of sun cream you can come at lunchtime to reapply it. No sun cream should be left in your child’s bag.
Reminder:
Sports’ Day – Reception will have Sports’ Day with KS1 on Monday 21st July @ 9.30am
Reception Graduation – Tuesday 22nd July @ 2.30pm in the new hall.
Thank you for your continued support.
