Nursery Newsletter 8.5.17

Dear Parents,

The children enjoyed sharing the story of 'The Very Busy Spider' last week. We created our own webs, used tweezers to collect spiders stuck in slime and learnt some new spider facts! This week we are reading the story of 'The Crunching, Munching, Caterpillar'.

DATES: Stay and Play - Friday 12th Morning: 9.00 Afternoon 12.45
Polling Day: School Closed Thursday 8th June
INSET Day: School closed on the 23rd June.

Personal, Social and Emotional:
We are encouraging the children to talk to other children when playing and create their own games. We are encouraging the children to identify the feelings of characters in stories and talk about their own feelings.

Communication and Language/Literacy:
We are encouraging the children to learn Nursery Rhymes and join in with actions to help them re-tell these. We are focusing on learning the rhymes ''The Farmer in the Dell" and "Mary had a Little Lamb" this week. They are encouraged to listen carefully to adults telling the rhymes and say the missing words.
This week we are focusing on rhyming and are playing lots of games to encourage the children to match rhyming words and begin to continue a rhyming string.
The children are always encouraged to use the correct tenses and word endings when talking e.g. "I slid down the slide." "I found a pretty bead." "Soon it will be my Birthday." Please continue to model this at home. Encourage the children to talk to you in full sentences and share their ideas.
Physical Development:
The children are continuing to develop their throwing and catching skills.
We have lots of threading activities on our Finger Gym this week to support the children to develop hand eye co-ordination and strengthen their finger muscles.

Mathematics:
The children will learn about the formation and recognition of numbers through the Ten Town number stories. This week we will focus on four and five. We are supporting the children to match quantity to numeral and ensure that they are able to count correctly.
You will receive more information on Mathematics at the Stay and Play this Friday.
Expressive Art and Design
The children are exploring colours and mixing by creating butterfly prints this week.

Snack
This week we have a selection of crackers and snack a jacks. The children will be able to spread butter/soft cheese on top and will be able to wash up their resources after this.

Note: To ensure all children are safe and happy whilst waiting to enter please make sure children are safely standing with parents/carers and continue to follow the school rules at all times; kind words, hands and feet.

This Newsletter can be seen on the Broadford Primary School Facebook Page and the EYFS Blog which you can reach from the school website. If you follow the school Facebook page you will see lots of blogs including photos of the children's time in Nursery.

Learning Challenge
Well done to everyone who completed a learning challenge last half term. We have had to extend the display board as we had so many lovely pieces of work to display!

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.
The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.
Poem/Song to learn:
A Little Seed
A little seed for me to sow,
A little soil to make it grow,
A little hold, a little pat,
A little wish, and that is that.
A little sun, a little shower.
A little while -
And then a flower!

1.      Learn it off by heart.
2.      Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme.
3. Why not grow your own plant from a seed and send in photographs of how it grows.

Create your own flower picture.
You can be as creative as you like try using paint, crayon, printing or even forks!

We will also be learning about mini-beasts such as spiders and bumblebees over the half term. If your child is interested in this you could help them to create a poster/picture and share the facts they have found out.

If you would like to contact a member of the EYFS team via email the address is eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk
Kind regards,
The Nursery Team
