Reception Christmas Crafts

The Reception children had a fabulous afternoon today as it was Christmas craft afternoon.  They were like Santa's little helpers as they
decorated biscuits and made beautiful pine cone decorations. The children demonstrated great creative skills and resourcefulness.
Aimen said "I need googly eyes so it looks like a face"
Faye said "I decorated a real Christmas Tree at home"

This time of year we carry out many Christmas related activities, however this is an ongoing process and throughout the year we feel it is important to explore and celebrate various other religions and cultures too.
The EYFS values the role that festivals and celebrations play in supporting children’s learning and development in every area of learning, and through them parents and practitioners can support children in beginning to understand the commonalities of human values that are shared by all cultures and religions.  We are sure you will agree that it is important for children to  have a knowledge about others beliefs so that children understand one another’s cultures and beliefs in a world that’s so diverse and vibrant.

Christmas Jumper Day in Reception

A big thank you to all of the parents and carers for sending your children in wearing Christmas Jumpers today.  There were some super efforts and the children had a great  time.  As I'm sure you are aware we did not ask for a donation on this occasion the school will be making a donation to 'The Save the Children ' charity out of money raised from concerts and other events.  Although there are so many worthy charitable causes we feel it is only fair to ask for financial support for one event every term.  We did chat to the children about about the charity and the children reflected on those who are less fortunate.

Reception Nativity Photos

We are sure you will agree that the Reception and Nursery children did an amazing job with their Nativity on Tuesday.  They sung their hearts out and the speakers spoke incredibly confidently.  It is very daunting when you are at the front of the hall with one hundred and fifty adults watching!  Most of the children looked like they genuinely  enjoyed it and demonstrated great resilience.                                                                           Apple Class

Reception Bedtime Stories

A big thank you to all of the parents and carers that attended the bedtime story event. It was a magical evening of storytelling with a roaring fire, it was great to see all of the children and some of the grown ups dressed up in their PJ's. We hope the children enjoyed the hot chocolate and storytelling.

For many children this stage in their reading development is challenging as they begin to blend words, recall high frequency words and read sentences, therefore it is imperative that we continue to promote a love of reading. Reading to your child is also a special time to be close and bond with them. A wonderful and magical moment for the two of you to spend together with no interruptions, a precious gem in this extremely busy and fast moving world we live in.

Bedtime stories help to bring out imagination in children, it helps with their thought processes, and it can also serve as a teaching tool for everyday life skills and scenarios that need to be learnt. Furthermore, they teach children, in an engaging manner, how to achieve a positive outcome in life.

Books are able to take children into a safe and enchanted world for a few minutes each day. This helps them de-stress from their daily pressures, as even children have to deal with daily stresses. This can be a relaxing and, believe it or not, a fun way for both child and adult to share stories with each other.

More importantly, if you can get your child into a story reading routine from a young age, they will be more likely to continue reading as adults. They will continue to enjoy the benefits of it, while enhancing their imagination, their thirst for knowledge, and escapism.

Apple’s Learning Challenges!

Apple class have been busy at home completing a variety of Learning Challenges. The children did a fantastic job of presenting their work to the class and telling us all about what they have been learning about. Everyone had learnt the song five little men and enjoyed singing it with the rest of their class. The children had all illustrated the song with some brilliant pictures and collages. Tele also went on to listen to Vivaldi's Four Season and to watch Mr Maker. He produced some fantastic collages for all three of his learning challenges.

Well done to Tele, Awwal, Noah, Lucas, John and Fatimah for completing their home learning challenges!

Baking Banana Bread

Nursery created some delicious Banana bread muffins. They followed a recipe and listened carefully to the instructions given. First the children learnt to hold a knife correctly and chopped up the bananas, next they mushed the bananas with forks. This required lots of hand-eye co-ordination! The children helped to measure the ingredients, cracked the eggs and poured the milk. As they stirred the mixture the group counted to ten whilst stirring then passed the bowl to the next child.
The children of course enjoyed eating the delicious product at the end!

"Mmm I can taste all the bananas!" Ryan
"Look the egg went in!" Charleigh
"Is it time to go to the oven?" Harley

Bedtime Stories Tomorrow!!

Reception and Nursery don't forget to join us tomorrow at 5pm for Bedtime Stories! There will be hot chocolate, cookies and of course some festive themed stories. Feel free to come in your PJ's, onesies or christmas jumpers!

A spaceship has landed in Reception!

A spaceship has landed in Apple Class and the children have been busy searching for aliens and dealing with space emergencies. "Quick the wings are on fire, we need to put it out. Lets go!" Lucas exclaimed as he set off to save the space mission.

Role play provides a fantastic setting for children to develop their communication and language skills  whilst using imagination and creativity. As children engage in role play with others, they collaborate and develop their social skills.

"It's ground control on the phone, there's aliens chasing us." Finley
"Quick aliens, get your jet packs on." Mackenzie
