Apple Class Sharing Assembly - Wednesday 9th May

We are happy to invite all parents and carers of children in Apple Class into school on Wednesday 9th May for Apple Classes first Sharing Assembly. Sharing Assembly will start at 9.00am in the hall. Apple Class are very excited to welcome you into school and to share what they have been learning.

Visiting the Vets!

As part of our topic growing and changing this half term the children have been enjoying their new vets role play area. At the end of the spring term the Reception children voted to decided whether they wanted a verts or a doctors for the next role play area. The vets won by a landslide.

The children have been busy working on reception booking animals into the vets, caring for the animals, performing operations and taking on the role of the animals themselves. Role play allows children a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with their peers, adding a narrative into their play. This allows children to further develop their communication and language skills within their play.

“You need to cut him open, he needs operating on.” Tele
“This dog is 2 years old and has a cut leg.” Daniel
“He’s hurt his leg, I’m bandaging it up.” Lottie

George and the Dragon - Nursery

Last week we celebrated St Georges Day in Nursery. The children learnt about the legend of St George by watching a re-enactment of the story. Mrs Light played the part of St George and the children helped us to create a cardboard dragon. After the performance the children listened to traditional English medieval music whilst feasting on the jam and cucumber sandwiches they had prepared.

"The dragon got hurt and went away." Sahir
"He saved the princess!" Callum

Broadford and the Beanstalk!

Fee Fi Fo Fum!

In reception we have been developing our understanding of the world and have been discussing the life cycle of plants. After reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ we got our own magic beans and planted them to observe our own beanstalks grow.

We discussed how our beans would need the right amount of water, sunlight, air and warmth to grow into tall beanstalks.

We carefully placed our magic beans into a bed of soil and used a pipette to water our beans to make sure that we didn’t over-water them!

Fran: “It needs water.”

Rubie-Rae: “I’ve made sunshine to help them grow.”

We are so excited to see how tall our beanstalks will grow and if there are any giants at the top!

Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, there is lots of measuring to be done!

The Reception children have enjoyed reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. After lunch they returned to their classrooms to find a letter from the giant. The giant had left them a series of footprints and set the children a challenge to work out which belonged to him. The children first discussed and ordered the footprints from shortest to longest remembering to use the correct vocabulary. They then set about measuring the length of the footprints using cubes. The children recorded the length of each footprint and used these numbers to justify their answers.

"The red footprint is the shortest because it was only eight cubes long." Lucas
"The orange one is definitely the giant's footprint. It has the largest number of cubes." Ellie-Jane
